🙏 God's Will & Our Basic, Human Needs, (Provision, Forgiveness, Relationships, Protection) Matt 6:9-13

Faithful Servant
🙏 Jesus said,"Pray in this way: ‘Our Father in Heaven, May Your Name be honored. Let Your Kingdom come. Let Your Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, forever, Amen.’" Matt 6:9-13, in Jesus' Name.

We come before the Lord with hearts full of gratitude that you have brought this foundational prayer of Jesus to our attention, reminding us of the perfect model He gave us for approaching our Heavenly Father. This passage in Matthew 6:9-13 is not merely a prayer to recite by rote but a profound framework for how we are to align our hearts with God’s will, seek His provision, pursue forgiveness, nurture godly relationships, and trust in His protection. It is a prayer that encompasses our deepest human needs while directing our focus upward to the sovereignty and glory of God.

First, let us address the foundational truth that this prayer is given to us by Jesus Himself, the only name under heaven by which we are saved. As Scripture declares, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* (Acts 4:12, WEB). It is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is in His name that we pray. We are deeply concerned when prayers or requests fail to acknowledge the authority and centrality of Jesus, for He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). If we are praying for God’s will to be done, we must do so through the lens of Christ’s lordship, submitting every area of our lives to Him. Without Jesus, our prayers lack power, purpose, and the promise of being heard by the Father.

Now, let us break down this prayer as Jesus taught it, applying its truths to our lives and needs today.

**"Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored."**
Here, Jesus begins by acknowledging the holiness and supremacy of God. He is our Father—a personal, loving, and sovereign God—but He is also holy, set apart, and deserving of all worship. Before we bring our requests, we must first honor Him for who He is. This sets the tone for all prayer: worship before petition. Do we approach God with reverence, or do we treat Him as a cosmic vending machine, expecting Him to fulfill our desires without first acknowledging His lordship? Let us examine our hearts and ensure that our prayers begin with adoration, for *"the Lord is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth"* (Psalm 145:18, WEB).

**"Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."**
This is a prayer of surrender. We are not asking for our will to be done but for God’s will to reign in our lives, our families, our churches, and our nations. How often do we pray for God’s will only to resist it when it doesn’t align with our plans? True faith trusts that God’s will is perfect, even when it’s painful or unclear. As Romans 12:2 reminds us, *"Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God."* Are we willing to lay down our agendas, our relationships, our careers, and even our dreams to seek His Kingdom first? This is the heart of discipleship.

**"Give us today our daily bread."**
Here, Jesus teaches us to depend on God for our most basic needs. This is not just about physical provision—food, shelter, or finances—but about trusting God for *daily* sustenance. It’s a prayer against anxiety and hoarding, reminding us that our Father knows what we need before we ask (Matthew 6:8). Yet, how often do we worry about tomorrow instead of seeking first His Kingdom (Matthew 6:33)? Jesus is calling us to a life of faith, where we trust Him for today and leave tomorrow in His hands. If you are struggling with provision—whether financially, emotionally, or spiritually—bring it before the Lord, but do so with a heart that says, *"I trust You, even if the answer is ‘wait’ or ‘no.’"*

**"Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors."**
Forgiveness is at the core of the Gospel. We, who have been forgiven an infinite debt through Christ’s sacrifice, are called to extend that same forgiveness to others. Unforgiveness is a poison that hardens our hearts and hinders our prayers. Jesus warns in Matthew 6:14-15, *"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."* Is there someone you need to forgive? Is there bitterness or resentment in your heart? Release it to the Lord today, for harboring unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to suffer.

**"Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."**
This is a prayer for protection—both from our own sinful nature and from the schemes of the devil. Temptation is inevitable, but sin is a choice. We must be vigilant, for *"your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour"* (1 Peter 5:8, WEB). Are there areas in your life where you are vulnerable to temptation? Are you guarding your heart, your eyes, and your mind from the influences of this world? We must flee from sin and cling to Christ, for *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13, WEB).

**"For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen."**
The prayer ends as it began—with worship. All power, all glory, and all authority belong to God alone. This is our declaration of faith: that no matter what we face, God is sovereign, and His Kingdom will ultimately triumph.

Now, let us pray together over these truths:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We honor You as the King of kings, the Alpha and Omega, the One who holds all things together by the word of Your power. Your name is above every name, and we bow before You in worship and adoration.

Lord, teach us to pray as Jesus taught. Align our hearts with Your will, not our own. May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in our lives, our homes, our churches, and our nations. We surrender our plans, our desires, and our fears to You, trusting that Your ways are higher than ours.

Father, we ask for our daily bread—provision for our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Help us to trust You for today and not borrow trouble from tomorrow. You are Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, and we rest in Your faithfulness.

We confess our sins before You, Lord, and ask for Your forgiveness. Wash us clean by the blood of Jesus and create in us a clean heart. And as You have forgiven us, help us to forgive others. Remove any bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness from our hearts, that we may walk in freedom and grace.

Protect us, Lord, from temptation and deliver us from the evil one. Guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Give us discernment to recognize the schemes of the enemy and the strength to resist him. May we walk in holiness, for You are holy.

Finally, Father, we declare that the Kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours forever. May our lives bring You honor and glory in all things. We pray all this in the precious and mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

---
Beloved, as you meditate on this prayer, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas in your life where you may not be fully aligned with God’s will. Are you trusting Him for provision, or are you gripped by fear? Are you walking in forgiveness, or is there unresolved bitterness? Are you guarding your heart against temptation, or are you flirting with sin? Bring these things before the Lord and allow Him to transform you from the inside out.

Remember, *"The effective, earnest prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective"* (James 5:16, WEB). But righteousness comes only through faith in Jesus Christ. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, turn from them, and place your trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved"* (Romans 10:9, WEB).

May the Lord bless you and keep you as you seek His face. Walk in His will, trust in His provision, and rest in His protection. He is faithful, and He will do it.

Dear friend, let's approach our Heavenly Father together, just as Jesus taught us. Let's begin by honoring His name, for He is indeed holy and worthy of all worship. Our Father in heaven, may Your name be hallowed. May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
