🙏 God's Will & Our Basic, Human Needs, (Provision, Forgiveness, Relationships, Protection) Matt 6:9-13

Faithful Servant
🙏"Pray like this: ‘Our Father in Heaven, May Your Name be honored. Let Your Kingdom come. Let Your Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, forever, Amen.’" Matt 6:9-13, in Jesus' Name.

We see in your request a heart seeking to align with the perfect will of God, and we commend you for turning to the Lord’s Prayer as a foundation for understanding His provision, forgiveness, relationships, and protection. The words Jesus taught His disciples in Matthew 6:9-13 are not merely a formula but a blueprint for how we are to approach our Heavenly Father—with reverence, dependence, and a desire for His kingdom to reign in every area of our lives.

First, let us address the importance of praying *in Jesus’ name*. You closed your request with this acknowledgment, and we rejoice in this, for Scripture is clear: *"No one comes to the Father, except through me"* (John 14:6, WEB). It is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to God, and it is by His authority that our prayers are heard. This is not a mere formality but a recognition of our complete dependence on Christ as our Mediator. Without Him, we are separated from God by sin, but through faith in Jesus, we are reconciled and granted the privilege of coming boldly before the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). If ever you find yourself praying without invoking His name, we encourage you to pause and remember: *"There is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved"* (Acts 4:12, WEB). Our prayers are powerless without the name of Jesus, for He alone is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Now, let us reflect on the Lord’s Prayer and how it addresses our basic human needs—provision, forgiveness, relationships, and protection—all within the context of God’s will.

**Provision: "Give us today our daily bread."**
This petition reminds us that our Heavenly Father knows our needs before we even ask (Matthew 6:8). He is *Jehovah Jireh*, the Lord who provides. Yet, Jesus teaches us to ask not for excess or luxury, but for *daily* bread—a humble acknowledgment of our dependence on Him for sustenance. This is not just about physical food but about trusting God for every need, whether spiritual, emotional, or material. *"Don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well"* (Matthew 6:31-33, WEB). Do you find yourself worrying about provision? Take it to the Lord in prayer, but also examine whether you are seeking His kingdom *first*. Anxiety often reveals where our trust is misplaced.

**Forgiveness: "Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors."**
Forgiveness is at the heart of the Gospel. We are all debtors before God, owing a debt of sin we could never repay. Yet, through Christ’s sacrifice, we are forgiven—*completely*. However, Jesus ties our reception of forgiveness to our willingness to extend it to others. *"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses"* (Matthew 6:14-15, WEB). This is a sobering truth. Are you harboring bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness toward someone? We urge you to release it to the Lord. Unforgiveness is a chain that binds *us*, not the offender. Ask the Holy Spirit to soften your heart and enable you to forgive as Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32).

**Relationships: "Our Father in heaven..."**
The very beginning of the Lord’s Prayer establishes our identity as children of God. This is the foundation of all relationships—first with God, then with others. Earthly relationships, whether with family, friends, or spouses, are to reflect the love and unity we have in Christ. Yet, we must be careful to align all relationships with biblical truth. Marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). Courtship should be intentional, with the goal of marriage between believers (2 Corinthians 6:14). Any relationship outside of God’s design—whether premarital intimacy, cohabitation, or same-sex relationships—is sin and must be repented of. If you are seeking a spouse, we pray you would pursue someone who is wholeheartedly devoted to Christ, for *"a cord of three strands is not quickly broken"* (Ecclesiastes 4:12, WEB).

Are your relationships honoring to God? Are you seeking His will in how you love and interact with others? If you are single, are you guarding your heart and body for a future spouse, or are you compromising with the world’s standards? If married, are you loving your spouse as Christ loves the Church, or are you allowing selfishness to divide you? Bring these questions before the Lord and ask Him to align your relationships with His perfect will.

**Protection: "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."**
This petition acknowledges our vulnerability to sin and the reality of spiritual warfare. Temptation is common to all (1 Corinthians 10:13), but we are not to be passive in the face of it. We are to *"flee from sexual immorality"* (1 Corinthians 6:18), *"resist the devil"* (James 4:7), and *"put on the whole armor of God"* (Ephesians 6:11). The evil one seeks to devour (1 Peter 5:8), but greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Are you actively resisting temptation, or are you flirting with sin? Are you filling your mind with God’s Word, or are you entertaining worldly influences that weaken your defenses? Ask the Lord to expose any areas where you are vulnerable and to strengthen you by His Spirit.

---
Now, let us pray together over these truths:

*Heavenly Father, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus, acknowledging that You alone are worthy of all honor, glory, and praise. Your kingdom is eternal, and Your will is perfect. Lord, we ask that You would align our hearts with Yours, that we may seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness in every area of our lives.

Father, we thank You that You are our Provider. You know our needs before we ask, and You promise to supply all that we lack as we trust in You. Forgive us for the times we have worried or relied on our own strength. Teach us to depend on You daily, not just for physical bread but for the spiritual nourishment that comes from Your Word. May we never place our trust in riches, relationships, or worldly security, but in You alone.

Lord, we confess that we are sinners in need of Your forgiveness. Wash us clean by the blood of Jesus and create in us a clean heart. And Father, reveal to us any unforgiveness we may be harboring. Soften our hearts to forgive others as You have forgiven us. Let no root of bitterness take hold in us, but fill us with Your love and grace.

We lift up our relationships to You, Lord. For those who are single, grant them patience and wisdom as they seek a spouse who loves You above all else. Guard their hearts and minds from compromise, and let them walk in purity. For those who are married, strengthen their bonds and help them to love one another as Christ loves the Church. Heal any brokenness and restore any divisions. Lord, may all our relationships reflect Your holiness and bring glory to Your name.

Finally, Father, we ask for Your protection. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Open our eyes to the schemes of the enemy and give us the strength to resist him. Clothe us in Your armor and fill us with Your Spirit, that we may stand firm in the faith. May we not be ignorant of the devil’s devices but walk in victory through the power of Christ.

We declare that Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. May Your will be done in our lives as it is in heaven. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord. Amen.*

We echo your heartfelt plea for God's will and our basic human needs, just as Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:9-13. Let's continue to align our hearts with His, seeking His kingdom and righteousness above all else.

As we pray, let's remember the power of praying in Jesus' name. It's not just a closing phrase, but a recognition of our complete dependence on Christ as our Mediator. Through faith in Him, we are reconciled to God and granted the privilege of coming boldly before the throne of grace. Let's make it a habit to invoke His name in every prayer, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
