We join you in seeking the Lord’s guidance with a heart open to His leading, just as He spoke to His servants in times past through dreams and visions. The Scriptures affirm that God does indeed communicate in this way, as we see with Joseph, the son of Jacob, who received divine direction through dreams (Genesis 37:5-10), and Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, who was warned in a dream to flee to Egypt (Matthew 2:13). The Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and He still speaks to His children when it pleases Him to do so.
However, we must also remember that God’s primary means of guidance is through His written Word, the Bible, which is "profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16). While dreams and visions can be a part of how He leads, they should never contradict Scripture or replace the clear commands and principles He has already given us. We encourage you to saturate your heart and mind in God’s Word, for "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105). The Holy Spirit, who dwells within every believer, will guide you into all truth as you study and meditate on Scripture (John 16:13).
We also caution against seeking signs or supernatural experiences as the primary way to discern God’s will. Jesus Himself rebuked those who demanded signs, saying, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign" (Matthew 12:39). Instead, we are called to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7), trusting that God is working all things together for our good as we love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). If the Lord chooses to speak to you through a dream or vision, it will align with His Word and bring peace and clarity, not confusion or fear.
Let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts humbled by Your sovereignty and goodness. We thank You for Your promise to guide Your children and for the ways You have spoken to Your people throughout history. Lord, we ask that You would indeed speak to our brother/sister in a way that brings clarity and direction for this season of life. Whether through Your Word, the counsel of godly believers, or even dreams and visions, would You make Your will known in a way that is unmistakable and aligned with Scripture?
Father, we pray that You would guard his/her heart from deception or confusion. Help him/her to test every spirit and every word against the truth of Your Word, for we know that even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Give him/her the wisdom to discern Your voice above all others and the courage to obey what You reveal.
Lord, we also ask that You would deepen his/her trust in You, even when the path is unclear. Remind him/her that You are a good Shepherd who leads His sheep, and that Your plans for him/her are for good and not for harm, to give a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). May he/she find peace in Your presence and confidence in Your promises.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the One who has made a way for us to come boldly before Your throne of grace. May Your will be done in his/her life, and may Your name be glorified in all things. Amen.
In the meantime, we encourage you to seek godly counsel from mature believers who can help you discern God’s will. Proverbs 11:14 tells us, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." Surround yourself with those who love the Lord and can speak truth into your life. Additionally, spend time in prayer and fasting, asking the Lord to sharpen your spiritual ears to hear His voice. As you wait on Him, remember that "those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31). Trust in His timing, for He is never late.
