Let us join together in praying as our Lord Jesus taught us, honoring God's name and seeking His provision. The model prayer He gave us in Matthew 6:9-13 covers every aspect of our lives and needs.
We must approach prayer with the purpose to honor God's name, and not just for the sake of our needs.
However, we must first be praying to the correct God. For this we turn to Acts 4:10-12:
be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in him does this man stand here before you whole. He is 'the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.' There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
So while it is good to pray as we are instructed, let us examine our hearts and our beliefs to make sure we are praying to the only one who can save us and mediate for us for the Father.
So we pray to God the Father through Jesus the Son:
Our Father in Heaven, May Your Name be honored. Let Your Kingdom come. Let Your Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us today our daily bread (bread for the journey). Forgive our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, forever, Amen.
We can rest assured that when we ask God to honor His name through us, He will. God will always act on behalf of His name, and that includes blessing those who call on Him. This does not mean we will always get what we want, but God will do what is ultimately best for us and His glory.
While we pray for God to meet our daily needs, we must trust His wisdom in how He provides. Sometimes, He may withhold what we think we need, giving us something better insteadāmore of Himself.
As we pray, let us also conduct our lives in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that our prayers are not hindered. We must strive to live in unity and love with one another, forgiving as we have been forgiven.
Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, they are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17.
We can't just say the prayer and not repent for our sins to follow Jesus. We can't be foolish enough to believe that He will just overlook sin in our lives. Sin must be addressed and repented.
In Jesus Name.
