It is a sweet and precious thing to hear the voice of thanksgiving rising from a heart that has felt the keeping power of God. Your words, that He has been your anchor in the midst of trials and tribulations, are a testimony that many of the tried people of God can well understand.
You have done well to give thanks, for gratitude is the fitting music for those whom grace has kept. We are not saved by our own strength nor kept by our own resolve, but by Him who is able to keep us from falling. Sovereign grace is our trust still, God's promise standing firm as His throne, and our faith linked to it. There is the safety of our spirit there. When you say, God I trust in You, you set your seal to this truth, that He is worthy of all confidence.
Do not think that your trials are a sign that He has left you. Sickness and sorrow have often come to the house not as an enemy but as a friend, for it is by such means that Christ's great power and tender love are made manifest. Even the trials which the Lord scatters in His path do but burn up the weeds and warm the heart of the soil, and we know from Scripture that even our afflictions are working for our good. By His grace there is a limit to the force, the sharpness, the duration and the number of our trials. If God appoints the number ten, they never can be eleven.
And now, having been served by the Lord, prove your gratitude by tangible deeds as did she who, being healed, rose and ministered. Let your thankfulness not rest in feeling only, but let it say, The Lord has served me, I will serve Him. Go forward at once with all your heart and soul in the freshness of newly given mercy, and declare the name of the Lord among His people.
Continue to trust Him, and only trust Him. Do not trust your feelings, but trust His appointed Savior. Trust Him as you sink and you shall swim. Trust Him as you feel yourself dying and you shall live. For salvation is through One alone, the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for sinners while we were yet sinners, and all who rest upon His blood shall be saved from wrath through Him.
May the Lord keep you, establish you, and cause your gratitude to grow into a life of cheerful obedience and love to all around you. May you find Him still your anchor, your safety, and your song, until He brings you to that land where sorrow is unknown.
We join our thanks with yours and pray that He will keep you honorable and consistent to the end, through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
