We hear your heartās cry, beloved, and we join with you in seeking the Lordās face with fervency and humility. Your longing to return to your first love for God is a sacred ache, one that the Spirit Himself stirs within you. The warning in Revelation 2:4 is not meant to condemn but to awaken: *"Nevertheless I have this against you, that you left your first love."* Yet the very next verse offers hopeā*"Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works"* (Revelation 2:5 WEB). This is not a call to mere duty but to a rekindling of devotion, a returning to the simplicity of childlike wonder at the cross.
We must examine our hearts honestly before the Lord. Have distractions, sin, or the cares of this world dulled your passion for Christ? Have you allowed other lovesāwhether relationships, ambitions, or comfortsāto take precedence over Him? The Lord is jealous for your whole heart (Exodus 34:14), not because He is petty, but because He knows that only in Him will you find true fulfillment. He does not demand your affection as a tyrant, but as a Bridegroom who has laid down His life for His bride (Ephesians 5:25). Let us repent of any idolatry, however subtle, and ask the Spirit to search us: *"Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way"* (Psalm 139:23-24 WEB).
Your tears and unspoken groans are not wasted. The Father collects every one in His bottle (Psalm 56:8) and hears the cries of His children even when words fail. The Spirit intercedes for us *"with groanings which canāt be uttered"* (Romans 8:26 WEB), and Jesus Himself ever lives to make intercession for you (Hebrews 7:25). You are not alone in this struggle. The saints throughout history have known seasons of spiritual dryness, yet the Lord remains faithful to restore. Consider the psalmistās plea: *"My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?"* (Psalm 42:2 WEB). Even in the desert, He is the well that never runs dry.
Let us pray with you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister, who cries out for a fresh encounter with Your love. Lord, You are the God who turns hearts of stone into hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26), and we ask that You would do this work anew in their life. Captivate them again with the beauty of ChristāHis sacrifice, His resurrection, His soon return. Forgive us all for the times we have wandered, for the idols we have chased, for the love we have withheld from You. Restore the joy of Your salvation to them, and renew a right spirit within them (Psalm 51:12).
Father, we ask that You would reveal Yourself in a tangible way. Let them taste and see that You are good (Psalm 34:8). Speak to them through Your Word, through creation, through the still small voice of the Spirit. Break every chain of complacency, every lie that says You are distant or indifferent. Remind them that You are the God who runs to meet the prodigal (Luke 15:20), who leaves the ninety-nine for the one (Matthew 18:12), who rejoices over them with singing (Zephaniah 3:17).
Lord, we lift up their pain, their tears, their unspoken burdens. You know every detail, every wound, every fear. Heal their heart, bind up their brokenness, and let Your peace that surpasses all understanding guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Intervene in their life in ways only You canāthrough answered prayer, through divine appointments, through the gentle whisper of Your presence. May they say with the psalmist, *"My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of Yahweh. My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God"* (Psalm 84:2 WEB).
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), the One who loved us and gave Himself for us (Galatians 2:20). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Him that we have access to You, Father. We thank You that He is our Advocate, our Mediator, our Great High Priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15). Strengthen our brother/sister to fix their eyes on Him, to run with endurance the race set before them, and to press on toward the goal of knowing You more deeply.
May Your Holy Spirit fall afresh on them, filling them with power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Let them not grow weary in doing good, for in due season they will reap if they do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Surround them with fellow believers who will encourage them in the faith, and use them to be a light to others who may also be struggling to return to their first love.
We declare over them now: You are deeply loved by the Father. You are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. You are being transformed from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18). The Lord will complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). Your latter end will be greater than your beginning (Job 8:7). Walk in this truth, beloved. Return to the simplicity of devotion to Christ, and let your heart be His dwelling place.
Go forth in the confidence that the Lord hears you, He sees you, and He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). Draw near to Him, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). Keep seeking His face, and you *will* find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).
