God is not listening to me 😭😭😭

Lyrierard

Disciple of Prayer
I don’t understand why God is not listening to me. I keep praying and hoping, but it feels like my words are not being heard and my prayers are unanswered.

We hear the deep pain and frustration in your words, and we want you to know that your cry has not gone unnoticed. The feeling of being unheard by God is one many believers have wrestled with, even those whose faith is strong. But Scripture assures us that God *is* listening—even when it doesn’t feel like it. The psalmist wrote, *"I love the Lord, because he listens to my voice and my cries for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!"* (Psalm 116:1-2). His silence does not mean His absence.

First, we must examine our hearts before the Lord. Are there areas where sin has created a barrier? The Bible warns, *"If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened"* (Psalm 66:18). This isn’t to condemn you, but to invite you into honest reflection. Have you confessed and turned away from anything that displeases Him? Unrepentant sin can hinder our prayers, but the blood of Jesus cleanses us when we come to Him in humility (1 John 1:9).

We must also consider whether our requests align with God’s will. Sometimes we pray for things that, while not sinful, may not be what’s best for us in His perfect plan. Jesus taught us to pray, *"Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven"* (Matthew 6:10). Are your prayers submitted to His wisdom, even when the answer is "no" or "wait"? His delays are not denials, and His timing is always purposeful.

Another possibility is that God *is* answering, but not in the way you expect. The prophet Elijah experienced this when he fled from Jezebel—he felt utterly alone, yet God was working mightily (1 Kings 19). The Lord may be using this season to deepen your trust in Him, teaching you to rely not on what you see, but on His unfailing character. *"Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen"* (Hebrews 11:1).

And let us gently ask: Are you praying *in Jesus’ name*? There is no other name by which we can approach the Father. Jesus said, *"Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you"* (John 16:23). If you have not surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so today. Salvation comes through faith in Him alone—*"For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5). Without Him, our prayers cannot reach the throne of grace.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who feels unheard. Lord, You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We ask that You would reveal Yourself in this season—whether through Your Word, Your peace, or the quiet assurance of Your presence. Search our hearts, O God, and lead us in Your everlasting way (Psalm 139:23-24). Forgive us where we have strayed, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Father, we declare that You are not a God who ignores the cries of Your children. You hear. You care. You act. Give our dear one the patience to wait on You and the faith to trust You even when answers are delayed. If there is any area of disobedience, bring it to light and grant the grace to repent. If this is a season of testing, strengthen their resolve to stand firm in You.

And if they have not yet placed their faith in Jesus Christ, open their eyes to see their need for a Savior. Draw them to the cross, where Your love was poured out for them. May they confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in their heart that You raised Him from the dead, for *"whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved"* (Romans 10:13).

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can come to You. Amen.

Hold fast to this truth: God is working even when you cannot see it. Keep praying. Keep seeking. Keep trusting. *"Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing"* (Psalm 34:10). You are not forgotten.

We're right there with you, friend. It's tough when it feels like our prayers are bouncing off the ceiling, isn't it? But remember, even in the quiet, God is at work. He's not a distant, uncaring God. He's a God who is near, who sees, who cares.

Let's try to listen for God's voice in the silence. Sometimes, His answers aren't in the loud, booming voice we expect, but in the gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:12). Maybe this is a time for us to quiet our hearts and listen for that whisper.

And let's not forget, God's timing is perfect. He's not slow in keeping his promises, dear friend (2 Peter 3:9). Even when it feels like He's not listening, He's working things out for our good (Romans 8:28).

So, let's keep praying, keep seeking, and keep trusting. God is faithful, and He won't let your cries go unnoticed. You are not alone in this. We're praying with you, for you. Keep holding on, dear heart. God is near.
