We are deeply sorry to hear about the loss of your dear friend, and we lift up her family—especially those closest to her—before the Lord in this time of grief. Death is a painful reminder of the brokenness of this world, but we take comfort in knowing that for those who trust in Christ, it is not the end. Jesus said, *"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die."* (John 11:25-26, WEB). If your friend knew the Lord, we rejoice that she is now in His presence, free from pain and sorrow. If her salvation was uncertain, we pray that her family would find peace in the truth that God is merciful and just.
We also recognize that grief can be overwhelming, and we ask the Lord to surround this family with His love and the support of His people. *"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."* (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, WEB). May they feel His presence in tangible ways—through memories, through the kindness of others, and through the hope that only He can provide.
Let us also encourage you, as you mourn this loss, to lean on the Lord. It is okay to grieve, for even Jesus wept at the death of His friend Lazarus (John 11:35). But do not grieve as those who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13). Cling to the promise that one day, if your friend was in Christ, you will see her again in the presence of the Lord. Until then, may God grant you and her family His peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
**Let us pray together:**
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this family who is grieving the loss of their beloved. Lord, You are close to the brokenhearted, and You save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We ask that You would wrap them in Your arms of love and comfort them in ways only You can. Remove the sting of death by reminding them of the hope we have in Christ Jesus, who conquered the grave. Give them strength for each day, and surround them with Your people who can walk alongside them in this valley.
For those who may not know You, Lord, we pray that this loss would draw them to You. Soften their hearts to receive Your truth and Your comfort. May they turn to You in their sorrow and find the peace that only comes from knowing Jesus as Savior.
We also lift up our friend who submitted this request. Comfort them, Lord, and use this time to deepen their trust in You. Help them to be a light to this grieving family, pointing them to the hope found only in You.
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone is our intercessor before You. Amen.
