Friend attempting suicide

Disciple of Prayer
I have a friend who I have been talking to who is living in Iran named ### ###. She lives in ### in ###, Iran. She has been having a rough time and she has been expressing how tired she was of life for the past few months. Today she told me she was thinking of ending her life for a long time now and now she finally made efforts to do so and she said her goodbye and hasn’t responded since. Please pray to Christ that he saves her from suicide, keeps her alive and safe, and that she will be free from the spirit of suicide and death. I am extremely worried about her. Please pray she is safe and alive and saved by Christ.

We are deeply grieved to hear of your friend’s suffering and the darkness that has led her to this place of despair. Suicide is a grave deception of the enemy, who comes only to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). But we serve a God who is mighty to save, who holds the keys to life and death, and who desires that none should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). Your urgency in bringing this before the Lord is commendable, and we join you in crying out to Him for her salvation—both physically and spiritually.

First, we must emphasize that there is no hope apart from Jesus Christ. You mentioned praying to Christ, and this is absolutely right, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If your friend does not know Jesus as her Lord and Savior, her greatest need is not just deliverance from suicide but deliverance from sin and eternal separation from God. The Gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16), and we pray that even in this moment, the Holy Spirit would draw her to Himself, opening her eyes to the truth that Jesus died for her sins and rose again so that she might have life—abundant and eternal.

We also recognize the spiritual battle at hand. The enemy seeks to bind people in hopelessness, but Jesus came to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners (Isaiah 61:1). The spirit of suicide is a lie from the pit of hell, and we stand against it in the authority of Jesus’ name. The Bible tells us to resist the devil, and he will flee (James 4:7). So we command every spirit of death, despair, and suicide to be bound and cast out in Jesus’ name. We declare that your friend is a child of God, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and that her life has purpose in Him.

To you, dear brother or sister, we say: do not lose heart. Continue to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and if there is any way to reach out to local authorities, trusted believers, or her family to intervene physically, do so. You are not responsible for her choices, but you are being faithful in interceding for her. The Lord hears your cries, and He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this precious soul who is teetering on the edge of despair. Lord, You know her name, her location, and the depths of her pain. You see every tear she has shed, and You are not distant from her suffering. We ask You, Lord, to intervene supernaturally. Send Your angels to surround her, to protect her, and to minister to her in this moment. Break every chain of depression, hopelessness, and death that the enemy has placed upon her. Fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and remind her that her life is precious in Your sight.

If she has not yet surrendered her life to You, Lord, we pray that even now, the Holy Spirit would convict her of her need for a Savior. Open her heart to receive Jesus Christ as her Lord, that she might be born again and have eternal life (John 3:16). Let her know that You are her refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

Father, we rebuke the spirit of suicide and command it to flee in Jesus’ name. We declare that no weapon formed against her will prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that You, Lord, have plans to prosper her and not to harm her, plans to give her hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Restore her mind, Lord, and let her thoughts align with Your truth. Help her to cast all her anxieties on You, for You care for her (1 Peter 5:7).

We also lift up our brother or sister who has brought this request before us. Comfort them, Lord, and give them wisdom on how to proceed. If there are practical steps they can take to help, reveal them clearly. Strengthen their faith as they wait on You, and let them rest in the assurance that You hear and answer prayer.

We thank You, Lord, that You are the God of miracles, and nothing is too hard for You (Jeremiah 32:27). We trust in Your sovereign power to save, and we give You all the glory. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

Finally, we urge you to continue standing in the gap for your friend. Share the Gospel with her when you can, and remind her that her life is a gift from God. If she is in Christ, her body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and she is called to honor God with it. Suicide is not the answer—Jesus is. Keep pointing her to Him, and trust that He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

If you have not already, consider fasting and praying for her, as there are some spiritual battles that require this level of intercession (Mark 9:29). And if you are able, reach out to other believers to join you in prayer. The body of Christ is powerful when it unites in faith.

May the Lord grant you peace as you wait on Him, and may He bring your friend out of darkness and into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).

We're here with you, praying fervently for your friend. It's heart-wrenching to know she's in such a dark place, but we hold onto the hope that Jesus can reach her even now. Let's keep crying out to Him together.

"Dear Lord, we come to You, trusting in Your unfailing love and power. You see our friend, surrounded by darkness and despair. Lord, send Your light to pierce through the gloom. Surround her with Your angels, protect her, and fill her with Your peace. Break every chain of depression and hopelessness. Remind her that her life is precious in Your sight, and that You have a purpose for her.

Lord, if she hasn't yet surrendered her life to You, open her heart to receive Jesus as her Savior. Convict her of her need for a Savior, and draw her to the cross. Let her know that You are her refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

We rebuke the spirit of suicide, Lord. Command it to flee in Jesus' name. Declare that no weapon formed against her will prosper, and that You have plans to prosper her and not to harm her, plans to give her hope and a future.

Comfort our hearts, Lord, as we wait on You. Give us wisdom on how to proceed, and strength to stand in the gap for our friend. We trust in Your sovereign power to save, and we give You all the glory.

In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
