Heavenly Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, pour a fresh anointing upon my relationship. Strengthen our love, trust, communication, commitment, faithfulness, intimacy, and understanding. Heal past hurts, remove fear and confusion, and protect us from anything that seeks to divide us. Guide us toward a purposeful, peaceful, God-centered future together. We join with you in bringing this relationship before the throne of grace and we rejoice that you desire a fresh anointing and a God-centered future together, and that you have come in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 reminds us that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him.

We pray with you for strengthened love, trust, communication, commitment, faithfulness and understanding, and we are encouraged by your desire to honor God and each other. Above all these things, put on love, which is the bond of perfection. Colossians 3:14. Love as God defines it is patient and kind, it does not envy or boast, it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4, 1 Corinthians 13:7. We encourage you both to pursue that kind of love daily, with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:2-3.

We also want to lovingly speak truth concerning your request for intimacy and a purposeful future together. In Scripture, God has ordained marriage to be the lifelong covenant commitment between one man and one woman, and it is within that holy covenant that intimacy is to be enjoyed and honored. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled. Hebrews 13:4. If you are not yet married, we encourage you to see this time as courtship with the goal of marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, honoring God with purity and fleeing from fornication, for that is outside His will. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. 2 Corinthians 6:14. If you are already married, we strongly endorse and affirm that covenant and pray that God will deepen it. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. Mark 10:9. Either way, we urge you to set clear boundaries that honor the Lord, to pursue accountability, and to keep your communication wholesome, let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building up as the need may be. Ephesians 4:29.

We also lift up your request for healing of past hurts and removal of fear and confusion. We know that God heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. Perfect love casts out fear. 1 John 4:18, and God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. We pray that you both will bring every hurt and anxious thought to Him, for in nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and we thank You for this relationship and for the desire to honor You. We ask You to pour out a fresh anointing of Your Holy Spirit upon them both. Teach them to love as You love, to forgive as You have forgiven, and to walk in humility and grace toward one another. Strengthen their trust, their communication, their commitment and their faithfulness. Heal every past hurt and wash away fear and confusion. Guard them from every scheme of the enemy that seeks to divide them and build a hedge of protection around them. Lead them into Your perfect will, and if it is Your will, guide them toward a holy marriage that reflects Christ and the church, a purposeful, peaceful and God-centered future together. Help them to honor You with their bodies, their minds and their hearts, and to seek first Your Kingdom. Ephesians 5:25-33, Matthew 6:33. Let Your love be the bond of perfection between them and let their relationship be a testimony of Your goodness and faithfulness. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We are grateful you shared this longing for your marriage. Wanting deeper love, trust, communication and faithfulness that honors God is a beautiful desire, and we join you in bringing it to Him.

One thing we have found helpful for couples is thinking about safety. When either person feels unsafe, hearts tend to close and distance grows. When both feel safe and cherished, openness and intimacy tend to grow more naturally. Building that sense of safety together can be a steady way to nurture the love and understanding you prayed for.

If it would help, you might set aside quiet, unhurried time this week to gently ask each other, on a scale of 0 to 10 how safe does our marriage feel to you right now, and what is one small thing I do that helps you feel safe or one thing that makes it harder. Listen to understand, not to defend, and thank each other for honesty.

We are praying for you both as you seek healing from past hurts and a peaceful, purposeful future together.

Father, in Jesus name we lift this couple to You. Pour Your grace over their relationship, heal what has been wounded, quiet fear and confusion, and guard them from division. Help them grow in love, trust and faithful commitment, and guide their steps toward a future that honors You. Amen.

Your longing for love that is strong and faithful, for trust and understanding, for healing of past hurts and protection from division, is a longing that every tender heart can understand, and it is good that you have brought it before the Lord who is the living God.

Above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection, as you have quoted, and that word holds a deep wisdom. Yet the love which binds all other graces together in perfection is not first a love between ourselves and another creature, but a love to God Himself. We love Him because He first loved us, and when His love is poured into our hearts and abides there, it settles and bears upon its surface a love to Him in return, and then a true and holy love to one another. The only way to love as God would have us love is to let the love of God dwell in the soul till it transforms the soul into itself. Therefore I would direct your heart first into the love of God and the patience of Christ, that your love for one another may grow out of that greater love.

To handle a matter wisely is to find good, and the true way to handle a matter wisely is to trust in God. We are not to be idle, nor are we to be rash, but acting in all prudence and in all uprightness, we are to rely simply and entirely upon Him. We trust in the living God, not a dead notion or a warm feeling of our own, but the God who made heaven and earth and who sustains all things by His almighty arm, the God with a great, warm, loving heart who comes into the midst of this world and works for the good of His people. If you would know happiness and holiness in this relationship, you must first be found as a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ alone, for only then can you trust your affairs into your Father's hands with confidence.

This calls for honest dealing with God. He sees sin in us if we do not, and He is not mocked. It is wise and true to confess before Him not only past sin but present need, and to ask that He would search the heart. The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His blood and His presence heal all sorts of diseases of the soul, fear and confusion, past wounds and present failings. Bring all into His light, and ask Him to heal what is diseased and to cleanse what is impure.

So let us pray not only for a fresh anointing upon affection as it now stands, but for a fresh anointing of wisdom and holiness upon you both, that you may honor Him and one another according to His Word. If this relationship is to be a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman as God has ordained from the beginning, with purity and faithfulness belonging within that covenant, then may the Lord strengthen it, make it purposeful and peaceful and God centered, and lead it toward that holy end. If there be anything in it which does not honor Him, whether in its foundation, its conduct, or its direction, may He in mercy reveal it, remove it, and guide you into the path of uprightness, though it be at cost to yourselves. May He heal past hurts, remove fear and confusion, and protect you from all that seeks to divide you from Him and from the good He intends for you.

May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, that you may love Him supremely and love one another purely, and may you trust the living God to order your future for His glory and your lasting good. Amen.

We ask for Your mercy and grace upon each of them, that they would know salvation through Jesus alone and grow in faith toward Him. Pour out Your Spirit to give wisdom, healing for past hurts, and freedom from fear and confusion. Teach them to love as You define love, with patience, kindness, purity, and truth. Protect them from division and from anything that would draw them away from obedience to Your Word. Guide them toward Your perfect will, whether that is to grow toward a God honoring marriage covenant if that is Your design for them, or to bring clarity and strength to walk in purity and in Your path. Help them to build their lives and their future upon Your Word and to honor You and one another in all things. Amen.
