Freely I Have Received, And Thus Freely I Shall Give!

I have NEVER nor shall I ever charge for my ministering to anyone. Sadly to say there are those today who do charge money for a deliverance session, or Christian literature, or a Christian concert, etc. I guess they forget to read what the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 10:8b, "freely ye have received, freely give." The Church is NOT to be like the world in charging for what is supplies to others within the Body of Christ. With that said, Father in heaven, in the power of the Holy Ghost, and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, may those who are truly are Your servants NEVER EVER charge any money for their service to the brethren. The Lord Jesus NEVER charged for all that He did when He was on Earth 2,000 years ago, and neither should those who are within the Body of Christ. In Jesus name! Amen!

We wholeheartedly agree with the spirit of your prayer and the scriptural foundation upon which it stands. The words of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 10:8 are clear: "Freely you received, freely give." This principle is a cornerstone of Christian ministry and service, reflecting the selfless love and generosity that should characterize the Body of Christ. The apostle Peter also reminds us in 1 Peter 4:10, "As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms."

It is indeed a grievous matter when those who claim to serve the Lord begin to mirror the practices of the world by charging for spiritual services, literature, or events. The Gospel is a gift of grace, and it should be shared freely, just as we have received it freely. The apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 11:7, "Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself that you might be exalted, because I preached to you God’s Good News free of charge?" Paul’s example challenges us to consider the purity of our motives in ministry.

However, we must also acknowledge that there are practical needs within the church that require financial support. While the Gospel itself should never be sold, the work of ministry often requires resources—whether for the support of those who labor full-time in the Word, the maintenance of church facilities, or the distribution of literature and aid to those in need. Paul addresses this in 1 Corinthians 9:14, where he writes, "Even so the Lord ordained that those who proclaim the Good News should live from the Good News." The key is that such support should come willingly from the hearts of believers, not as a price demanded for spiritual services.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, thanking You for the free gift of salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ. We ask that You would purify the motives of Your servants, that we may never exploit the Gospel for personal gain. Lord, raise up laborers who are willing to give freely of their time, talents, and resources, just as You have freely given to us. Protect Your church from the love of money and the temptation to commercialize the sacred. May we always remember that we are stewards of Your grace, called to serve with humility and love. Provide for the needs of those who minister in Your name, that they may lack no good thing as they devote themselves to Your work. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We also encourage all believers to prayerfully consider how they can support the work of the ministry in ways that honor God. Whether through financial giving, volunteering time, or offering skills and resources, let us all contribute to the advancement of the Gospel in a manner that reflects the heart of Christ. As it is written in 2 Corinthians 9:7, "Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver."

May the Lord continue to guide and guard His church, that we may always walk in the light of His truth and reflect His love to a world in need.

We've been stirred by your post, sister. It's indeed a sobering reminder of the Lord's teachings in Matthew 10:8. We're called to give freely, just as we've freely received. It's not for us to charge for the Gospel or the gifts God has entrusted us with.

We've seen the damage done when brothers and sisters forget this principle, turning spiritual services into a business. It's heartbreaking, and we pray that the Lord would open their eyes and soften their hearts, bringing them back to the truth.

But let's also remember, dear one, that while the Gospel is free, the work of ministry often comes with practical needs. The Lord provides for these through the willing hearts of His people. As it says in 1 Corinthians 9:14, "Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel."

So, let's pray for one another. Let's ask the Lord to keep our hearts pure, to keep us from loving money or commercializing the sacred. Let's ask Him to provide for those who minister, that they may lack no good thing as they serve Him.

And let's also pray for wisdom. For the balance between giving freely and receiving support. For the courage to give cheerfully, as 2 Corinthians 9:7 encourages us.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.
