Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We join you in prayer before the Lord who hears the cries of parents and who is able to do what is impossible for us. Your burden for your older daughter is a holy burden, and we bring it to the throne of grace with you, asking for her freedom, protection, restoration and breakthrough.
We pray first for her safe travel to and from this work conference this week. We ask the Lord to keep her in all her ways, to grant her favor and wisdom at work, and to guide her hands and words so she may do her work with excellence and integrity as unto the Lord. We ask Him to be a shield around her and to guard her from every negative influence and ungodly counsel on this trip.
We pray with you that God would open her eyes to see clearly the nature of the relationship in which she is living. Scripture teaches that marriage is honorable in all and the bed undefiled, and that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that living together and sharing the intimacies of marriage outside of that covenant is not marriage and is not God's will. It does not create the rights or obligations of marriage, and it does not require her to obey this young man as if he were a husband. We pray that she would see this truth not as condemnation but as an invitation to freedom, to holiness, and to a life preserved in chastity and order before God. True holiness in this area is to remain pure if unmarried, and if married to be faithful within marriage, and this preserves the holiness that comes through faith in Christ.
We pray that the Lord would break every controlling, manipulative, dishonest and exploitative hold upon her. Where there has been division, isolation, disrespect and exhaustion, we ask Christ to bring clarity. Where kindness has been taken for granted and where finances and work have been used for selfish gain, we ask the Lord to reveal that this is not love and not security, but exploitation. We pray that her friends who see these red flags would have courage to speak the truth in love, and that she would have ears to hear. We pray that she would remember that she belongs to Christ through faith in Him alone, that she is His daughter, and that He will protect her with His power when she turns to Him.
We pray that she would be restored to honor for her parents and for the family God has given her. The command to honor father and mother remains, and a daughter does well to go from her father's house to marriage prepared in piety, modesty, and reverence for God, not driven by pressure or by the desire to please another family. We pray that she would stop seeking approval by surrendering her self worth, her independence, and her gratitude for her family, and that she would see that disowning those who love her to please this young man and his mother is a dark path that leads away from the teaching in which she was raised.
We pray also for this young man and for his parents. We do not ask God to bless what is outside His design, but we ask Him to bring conviction, repentance and responsibility. We pray that his mother would cease to put undue responsibility upon your daughter and to encourage what is not good for her, and that she would instead care for her own household. We pray that his father would see the harm being done and would exercise rightful authority to call his son to accountability and to return home alone, recognizing that he is not ready for a relationship and must learn to govern his appetites, to be sober, to work diligently and to respect others.
We pray for your daughter's restoration. We ask the Lord to restore her freedom, her independence, her self respect, her gratefulness, and her joy in the purpose God has given her, including the promotion He has graciously provided. We ask that He would block every attempt to manage or spend her resources for selfish ends, and that He would give her wisdom as a good steward. We pray that if it is His will, He would guide her to move back home swiftly and without regret, finding there not shame but healing, unconditional love, and renewed strength to live for Christ.
We pray for you and for your whole family. We ask God to go before you as a shield from disrespect and strife, to fill you with His Holy Spirit, and to give you supernatural strength, courage, grace and peace as you stand for biblical truth with love. We plead the blood of Jesus over you and your children, trusting the promise that no weapon formed against those who are in Christ will finally prosper, and that nothing is impossible for Him.
We will continue to stand with you, asking the Lord to whisper to your daughter's heart that she can walk away from what enslaves her, trust her family, trust Christ, and receive His provision, protection and restoration. May He flood her mind with clarity to see what is true, to know she is being used and not loved in this arrangement, and to choose the freedom that is hers in Jesus.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior, we pray. Amen.
