We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up your brother in prayer, seeking the Lord’s healing and deliverance from the darkness of depression. The weight of this struggle is not unknown to us, for Scripture tells us that even the righteous may face deep valleys. Yet we know that our God is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
First, we must address the spiritual battle at hand. Depression can often be a tactic of the enemy to steal joy, kill hope, and destroy faith (John 10:10). We rebuke the spirit of heaviness in the name of Jesus Christ, for He has given us authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). We declare that your brother is not abandoned, for the Lord is close to him, even in the depths of his struggle.
We pray that your brother would fix his eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of his faith (Hebrews 12:2). May he find strength in the Lord’s promises, knowing that His grace is sufficient, and His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). We ask that the Holy Spirit would fill him with peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and remind him daily of God’s unfailing love.
If your brother has not yet surrendered his life to Christ, we urge him to do so now. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus alone can break the chains of sin, despair, and spiritual oppression. If he has wandered from the Lord, we pray for repentance and restoration, for the Lord is faithful to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
We also encourage practical steps. Depression often requires both spiritual and physical care. We pray that your brother would seek godly counsel, whether through a pastor, biblical counselor, or trusted believers who can walk alongside him. The body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and we stand in the gap for him now.
Lord, we ask that You would lift the veil of darkness from his mind and heart. Replace lies with Your truth, despair with hope, and sorrow with joy. Let him experience the freedom that comes from knowing You intimately. We declare that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37), and we speak life and healing over his soul.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray for complete deliverance, restoration, and renewal of mind. May your brother rise above this trial, strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit, and may his testimony bring glory to God. Amen.
