Fornication, adultery, restoration

Kensem

Beloved of All
Please lift a special someone (hidden for privacy reasons) to the throne of God in the name of Jesus.
This person is said to be a born-again Christian, but he distanced himself from God due to fornication and therefore married an adulterous woman.
Let us pray in Jesus name that this person accepts God's will regarding their broken relationship, and understands that, as a Christian, they cannot be unequally yoked, but must marry someone who is also a Christian.

Let's pray based on these verses:
Hosea 2:19-23
[19] “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and mercy;
[20] I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, And you shall know the Lord.
[21] “It shall come to pass in that day That I will answer,” says the Lord; “I will answer the heavens, And they shall answer the earth.
[22] The earth shall answer With grain, With new wine, And with oil; They shall answer Jezreel.
[23] Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’”

Please continue to pray...Keep praying that this brother has unweavering faith in Jesus Christ and the Father's holy plan for his life...AMEN
LET GOD BE GLORIFIED!!

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear brother who has strayed from the path of righteousness through the sin of fornication and entered into an adulterous marriage. The Word of God is clear: "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). This brother, though born again, has bound himself to someone who does not share his faith, and this union is not pleasing to the Lord.

The Scriptures also warn us, "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge" (Hebrews 13:4). The acts of fornication and adultery are serious sins that grieve the heart of God, and they have consequences not only for the individuals involved but also for their relationship with Him. Yet, we know that our God is a God of mercy and restoration. The passage from Hosea that you shared is a beautiful reminder of His unfailing love and His desire to betroth His people to Himself in righteousness, justice, lovingkindness, and mercy.

We must also address the reality that this brother has distanced himself from God. Sin creates a separation between us and our Heavenly Father, and it is only through repentance and turning back to Him that this fellowship can be restored. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). We pray that this brother will come to a place of true repentance, not just for the sake of his marriage, but for the sake of his relationship with God.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of concern for this brother who has strayed from Your path. Lord, we know that You desire repentance and restoration, and we ask that You would draw him back to Yourself with cords of lovingkindness. Break the chains of sin that have entangled him, and help him to see the seriousness of his actions. Father, we pray that You would convict his heart and lead him to true repentance, that he may turn away from this adulterous union and seek Your will for his life.

Lord, we ask that You would open his eyes to the truth of Your Word and the importance of being unequally yoked. Give him the strength and courage to make decisions that honor You, even when they are difficult. We pray that You would surround him with godly counsel and accountability, that he may be encouraged and supported in his walk with You.

Father, we also pray for the woman involved in this union. If she does not know You, we ask that You would draw her to Yourself and reveal Your love and salvation to her. If she is a believer, we pray that she too would repent and seek Your will for her life.

Lord, we know that You are a God of restoration, and we ask that You would work in this situation to bring about Your perfect will. Whether that means the restoration of this marriage in a way that honors You or the dissolution of this union so that both parties can seek godly spouses, we trust in Your sovereign plan. We pray that this brother would have unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and submit to Your holy plan for his life.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to You, and it is only in His name that we can find forgiveness, restoration, and true life. Amen.

To this brother, we say: Do not lose heart. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Turn to Him with all your heart, confess your sins, and seek His will. The road to restoration may not be easy, but it is worth it. Surround yourself with godly men who can encourage you and hold you accountable. Remember, "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). You are not alone, and the Lord is waiting with open arms to welcome you back.

We’re grateful you asked us to join you in lifting up this brother. It’s clear how much you love him and long to see him walking securely in the Lord again. That kind of persistent prayer matters more than we often realize, and we’re glad to stand with you.

What stays with us from your request is your desire for him not just to leave a wrong relationship but to wholeheartedly embrace God’s will for his life. That shift goes deeper than feeling sorry. We sometimes mistake regret for repentance, yet true change begins when someone’s thinking is reoriented, when godly sorrow produces a decisive turn. We’re praying for that kind of awakening in him, where he sees his situation through God’s eyes and finds the courage to act on what he knows is true.

Confession isn’t just a moment; it’s a process of bringing every hidden part into the light, naming it honestly before God, and then walking a new direction. That’s where mercy meets real transformation. The beautiful picture from Hosea you shared reminds us that the Lord never stops calling those who are His. He speaks firmly but tenderly, and He is able to restore what has been broken.

For you, the steady work of prayer is a profound ministry. You may also find that simple patience and quiet truth-telling, offered gently when the door opens, can help him see his path more clearly. You don’t need to carry the weight of fixing it; the Spirit is already at work.

Lord Jesus, we lift this brother before You now. Penetrate his heart with truth and give him a mind that longs for Your will above every attachment. Grant him the gift of honest confession and the strength to walk away from anything that keeps him from You. Surround him with Your mercy, and bring him fully back into the fellowship of faithful believers. Sustain our sister who prays so diligently, fill her with hope and peace as she trusts You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

You have laid a sorrowful case before the mercy seat, and you do well to plead the promises of Hosea. The Lord knows how to bring back His wandering child, even when that child has sunk into the mire of fornication and bound himself in an unequal yoke. I join with you in prayer that this erring brother may hear the voice that says, "Return unto Me, for I have redeemed thee."

Yet while we pray, let us not be ignorant of the subtlety of sin. A man may go through the motions of sorrow without ever repenting to give God glory. True repentance is not a mere fright at the gallows of judgment, nor a passing regret that leaves the heart still wedded to the world. No, repentance after a godly sort looks away from self to Christ, and abhors the sin because it is against such infinite love. Has this man's grief brought him to the foot of the cross? Has his sorrow made him loathe the sin, or only its consequences? The repentance that needs not to be repented of is the gift of the Holy Ghost, it is a lasting divorce from sin, not a temporary separation. I fear lest he should mistake a carnal remorse for the work of the Spirit. Repentance and remission are joined together: where there is no true turning, there is no real forgiveness.

You have rightly reminded us of the precept, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers." It is a yoke that seems light at first, but it will gall the shoulders before long. They who reject the easy yoke of Christ will find the iron yoke of remorse an unbearable load. If this brother has married a woman who is not in the Lord, he has woven a chain that will clank heavily on his spirit. Yet even this chain can be broken by the God who restores the years the locust has eaten. Our Lord Jesus is exalted to give repentance as well as remission. Let us plead that he may have a look from Christ, such as Peter had, that will dissolve his heart in streams of penitence. Peter's fall was sudden, but his recovery was swift because the Lord turned and looked upon him. That look severed Peter from the crowd, and it can do the same for this wandering sheep.

The passage from Hosea you quote is a golden cord of hope. God says He will betroth the backslider to Himself forever, in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy. He will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy, and say to those who were not His people, "You are My people." Let this promise be your plea. Yet let the prayer never be separated from the earnest warning: the goodness of God should lead him to repentance, not to presumption. If he tramples on the blood of the covenant by continuing in a forbidden union, he mocks the grace he professes to seek. We must not ask God to bless a bond He calls unclean. That were to crucify the Son of God afresh.

Continue, then, to wrestle in secret for this soul. The Lord is never deaf to the cry of faith. But pray that he may not only be sorrowful, but that his sorrow may work a thorough change, a repentance that builds up what sin has pulled down. May he learn that a broken and a contrite heart is the sacrifice God will not despise. And if the marriage is indeed a transgression of the divine law, may he have the courage to act upon the conviction God gives him, whatever the cost. The pathway of obedience is the only safe one, even if it be strewn with sharp trials.

I commend your intercessions to the High Priest who ever lives to make intercession for us. Be not weary in this holy work. Who can tell whether the Lord will grant repentance unto life to this deceived one, and restore him to the fellowship of the saints? Let God be glorified in the salvation of a sinner and the reclamation of a wanderer. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Let us indeed bring this brother before the throne of God in the name of Jesus, but let us be sober about what we are asking. We must not ask God to bless what He has plainly called adultery and fornication. Fornication is not a small defilement; it is a sin against one's own body and against God. And take this to heart from the apostle: not only is it adultery to defile another man's wife, but the man who is bound to a wife and then gives himself to another also commits adultery. God does not avenge only the persons wronged; He avenges Himself, because His law is despised.

If this brother has married a woman who is lawfully bound to another, or if she is not a believer, then the relationship itself is not a covenant for us to celebrate. The Scripture says that a believer must not be unequally yoked. Hosea's promise, "I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy," is not a promise to bless our unlawful bonds. It is the promise of God's faithful covenant to a people who turn from their harlotries and return to Him. So let us pray that this brother desires that betrothal to Christ more than any earthly attachment. Let us pray that he sees the mercy of God only on the far side of repentance, not in the middle of sin.

Restoration is possible. Do not hear me say otherwise. But true repentance is not merely weeping over the consequences while keeping the sin. Esau sought the blessing with tears, yet found no place of repentance because his tears were not the grief that turns from evil. So for this brother, let us pray for godly sorrow that cuts off the adulterous tie, confesses the fornication, and returns to faithful obedience. Pray for unwavering faith in Jesus Christ indeed. But faith in Jesus Christ will not lead him to remain in a relationship that God calls adultery. Faith will lead him out of it.

If you know this man, do not let the matter remain only hidden in prayer. Warn him in love. The Church at Corinth was not blamed merely because a sin existed, but because they did not mourn and act. Pray for him, yes, and also speak the truth to him. Let our prayer be this: Lord, restore our brother to Yourself. Sever every ungodly tie. Give him a heart that fears You more than he fears losing what he must not keep. And if it is Your will that he marry, bring him to a wife who is truly in Christ, that the two may be one flesh in righteousness and not in defilement. Amen.

You are right to bring this man before the throne of grace. The real need is deeper than a broken relationship. The Scripture describes someone who once knew the truth, stepped into fornication, and then joined himself to a woman who does not share the faith. That is exactly the unequal yoke the Word warns about. Many people in that condition believe their case is special because they love the other person or hope the other person will change. But love and hope do not overturn what God has said. Light and darkness cannot live in the same yoke without pulling in opposite directions. An unbeliever is not governed by the same ethic, and the believer will always feel the strain.

So the first prayer is not for a comfortable resolution. It is for repentance. John the Baptist preached repentance. Jesus preached repentance. Even when the Lord addressed wayward churches, he still called them to repent. Sin drove this man from God, and only repentance will bring him back. Think of David. His sin was against a woman, against a man, and against a whole nation, but when he came to himself, he confessed that his sin was ultimately against God. The sign that God had truly changed him was not that he hid his sin or defended his choices. It was repentance, change, and restoration.

Hosea's promise is the hope for this man. God says he will betroth his people to himself forever in righteousness, justice, lovingkindness, and mercy. God is not finished with those he calls his own. To those who were not his people he says, You are my people. That is the mercy this man needs. But the betrothal is in righteousness and faithfulness. God's mercy does not bless sin. It restores the sinner by turning him from sin.

Keep praying that this man's heart will be broken over what drove him from the Lord. Pray that the unequal yoke will be exposed and that he will stop treating this relationship as an exception to the Word. Pray that he will come to true repentance as David did, confessing his sin against God and turning from it. Pray that he will desire to obey God's will in every part of this broken relationship, and that any future union would be only in the Lord, with a believer. Pray that he hears the promise of Hosea as a call back, not as a guarantee that God will bless whatever he has built.

Let this be the prayer. Father, in Jesus' name we lift this man before you. Break the deception that has made him think his situation is a special case. Give him godly sorrow over the sin that separated him from you. Turn his heart back to Christ. Show him the unequal yoke he is carrying, and give him courage to obey your will, whatever that costs. Restore to him the joy of your salvation, and let mercy triumph in his life for your glory. Amen.
