Forgiveness

God hears the honest cry you have prayed, and He answers it with mercy, not with condemnation. The voice that tells you that you are worthless is not His voice. The enemy is an accuser who torments and lies to make you feel without value and without hope. The Spirit of God does something very different. He convicts of sin in order to draw you back into the light, so that you can be forgiven and restored.

There is no relief in trying to hide sin or excuse it or justify it to yourself. Like David, when we try to cover guilt it stays before us and weighs us down. The way to forgiveness is to agree with God about what is true, to acknowledge your transgression openly before Him without hiding. When you say, Lord forgive my sins, including today, God is able to deal with it fully. Forgiveness does not come through explaining away what we have done, it comes through confessing it.

And when God forgives, His forgiveness is total and complete. He Himself says, though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Through Jesus Christ alone, who bore the punishment for sin, God washes away guilt entirely. Many people live with a heavy sense of guilt and even feel they must punish themselves to pay for what they have done, but that burden is not what God asks of you. Jesus has already paid the price. When you bring your sin to Him and receive His cleansing, He lifts that heavy weight and restores joy and gladness in its place.

You are not worthless. You are created by God and, if you are in Christ, you are sealed as His and precious in His sight. The accuser wants you to believe your sin defines you, but God says that when He forgives, He no longer holds that sin against you. He remembers it no more and He begins to teach and guide you in the way you should go.

So keep coming to Him simply and honestly, just as you have today. Name what is on your conscience before Him, ask for His cleansing through the blood of Jesus, and take Him at His word that you are forgiven. When the thought comes that you are worthless, answer it with what Scripture says is true, that you are forgiven, cleansed, and loved, and that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Ask Him to fill your heart again with the joy of His salvation.

May the Lord lift this burden of accusation from you today, wash you clean through Jesus, and let you hear again His joy and gladness in your heart.
