Hello all
It has been a long time since I posted anything, and if any of you missed me here I am to say sorry. Things have been going good in my life as I lean in to God more. Yes I am still standing for my marriage and God is moving mountains.
Now on with the post titled forgiveness so it must be about forgivness then, right? Nope I'm going to write about baby puppies and little kittens. Yes of course I'm going to write about forgivness.
We live in a world that is extremely unforgiving, every one wants revenge or to get even if someone did something wrong too or around them. Not just that but some people hold a grudge if something good happens to someone else and not them, like if a coworker gets a promotion you wanted or even needed and you were over looked you get angry and upset and if that person gets fired your a little relieved that you get a chance again. Not saying you or I are guilty of anything like this but you get the idea. Its a very cold and unforgiving world out there.
We all know Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood so we can be forgiven for our sins, but what does Gods word say about us forgiving others for their actions?
Matthew 18: 21-22 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times? “Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.â€
That's a lot of forgiveness towards someone. I have two points to make on why we forgive, the first one recently hit me like a water balloon full of cement, it hurt and left a mark.
Point one we need to forgive in order to be forgiven
Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Ouch is right! Is anything more important than being forgiven by God? NO!!! I was watching a YouTube video the other day that made this point so real to me. In this video a pastor died and an angel took him to see heaven. It was beautiful and everything you would expect from what the bible tells us and so much more. Then the angel took him to hell. And man was it a dark scary picture I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. It wasn't the image of hell that got me it was what the angel told this pastor that freaked me out. He said to him, "if you where to die today this would be your portion."
The pastor said "there is no way I have lead thousand to the Lord there is no way."
The angel replied "because you didn't forgive you where never forgiven."
I will post a link to this clip here as well.
I tell you what that opened my eyes and I went down a list of every single person that had done wrong in my life and I spoke forgiveness to God. I even forgave myself for my stupidity before Christ.
I don't want to chance losing because of my stuberness
As Paul says we must hold on to our salvation with fear and trembling in Philippians 2:12 and again Paul speaking of losing the prize by making his body his slave in 1 Corinthians 9:27.
Point two
Can anyone actually sin against you?
I'll leave this answer to you. As the psalmist wrote
Psalms 51:4 Against You, You only, I have sinned And done what is evil in Your sight, So that You are justified when You speak And blameless when You judge.
To me this verse is saying anything I do wrong is against God. If I am lied to by someone is it a covenant between me and them broken? No its a covenant between God and them, even if they do not know it. Being unforgiving to that person for the lie turns us into a judge and is not anger against someone an action of revenge?
Romans 12:19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord.
So suming it up it is very important to forgive EVERYONE no matter what. For one so we can be forgiven and second its not us who where wronged but God.
I hope this helps someone and I thank you for taking the time to read it. And as promised here is that link.
Thank you and God bless
