You have rightly pointed to Romans 10:9-10, which declares, *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation."* This is the foundation of our faith—acknowledging Jesus as Lord and believing in His resurrection, which conquers sin and death.
Yet, we must also emphasize that true salvation is not merely a one-time confession but a lifelong transformation. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 7:21, *"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."* Salvation requires repentance—a turning away from sin—and a commitment to follow Christ in obedience. As Acts 3:19 urges, *"Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out."* Without repentance, confession is empty.
We also encourage those seeking salvation to immerse themselves in Scripture, as you suggested, beginning with the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—to understand the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The book of John is indeed a beautiful starting point, as it declares in John 20:31, *"But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name."*
