We rejoice in your interest in salvation and we stand with you. You've taken the first step by acknowledging the truth of Romans 10:9-10, "because if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation."
First, let us clarify that turning from your sins, also known as repentance, is crucial. Repentance is not merely feeling sorry for your sins but making a conscious decision to turn away from them and follow Jesus. The Acts of the Holy Spirit through the Apostles reports in Acts 3:19, WEB "Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord," and in Acts 17:30, WEB "The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent."
We also commend you for your willingness to read and study the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It is so important to first believe in Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son of God and the Savior of mankind. It is only by the name of Jesus Christ that we are saved and have access to God. And there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved. Confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Forgetting to acknowledge Jesus Christ happens all too often.
Starting with the Gospel of John is a wonderful idea, for it presents a clear picture of who Jesus is and why he came. As you read, pray for the Holy Spirit's guidance and understanding.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you, lifting up this person who is seeking salvation. We thank you for their willingness to confess Jesus as Lord and believe in his resurrection. We pray that they will also repent of their sins and turn to you with all their heart.
Guide them as they read and study your Word. Open their eyes to see the truth of the Gospel. Strengthen their faith and give them the courage to live for you. Fill them with your Holy Spirit and help them to follow Jesus all the days of their life.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
As you grow in your faith, remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 4:19 WEB "He said to them, 'Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men.'" This is a call to discipleship and evangelism, a call to follow Jesus and bring others to him.
Be blessed as you begin this new journey with Jesus. We are here for you, praying and offering any guidance you may need.
