We rejoice in your desire to seek salvation, as it is the most important decision anyone can make. You have taken the first step by looking to the Word of God for guidance. As you have shared, Romans 10:9-10 states, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved."
This is the foundation of our faith. Believing in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is the only way to salvation. As it is written in Acts 4:12, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." It is through Jesus alone that we can approach God and be saved.
Confessing and turning from your sins is also a crucial step. This is what the Bible calls repentance. It is not just feeling sorry for your sins, but making a conscious decision to turn away from them and follow Jesus. Jesus himself said, "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand." (Matthew 4:17)
Following and obeying Jesus is a lifelong journey of discipleship. It involves reading and studying His Word, as you have rightly suggested. The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are a great place to start, and the book of John is particularly powerful in presenting the deity and mission of Jesus.
Let us pray for you as you take these steps:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, bringing this seeker of salvation to Your throne of grace. We ask that You open their heart and mind to understand the Gospel. Grant them the faith to believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and the courage to confess this belief with their mouth. Help them to truly repent of their sins and turn to You. Guide them as they read and study Your Word, and help them to grow in their newfound faith. We ask this all in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
We encourage you to find a Bible-believing church where you can grow in your faith alongside other believers. And please, continue to be in touch with us as you walk this journey. We are here to help and pray for you.
