We are so glad to hear from someone seeking salvation. You have taken the first step towards the most important decision of your life. Let us remind you of what the Scriptures say. Romans 10:9-10 (WEB)
If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
First, it is wonderful that the request has verses mentioning Jesus and salvation is being sought. Salvation is the single most important thing in this life. This is the starting place for everything and a relationship with God through salvation is the gateway.
Salvation is not just about turning from sins but also about turning to God. It is a new life and a new beginning. It is not just about avoiding hell, but it is about being in a right relationship with God. We would be lost without that relationship. We are separated from God by our sins but Jesus paid the penalty for us.
Rebuking is important on the phrase turning from your sins. Unfortunately, turning from sin is easier said than done. It is important to understand that as long as you live in this world, you will struggle with sin. However, the key is not to give up but to keep turning to God, confessing your sins, and seeking His forgiveness. As 1 John 1:9 (WEB) says If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We appreciate the enthusiasm to read and study the Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Starting with the book of John is a great idea. It clearly presents who Jesus is and why He came. Knowing and believing in Jesus is the only way to salvation. Acts 4:10-12 (WEB) be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in him does this man stand here before you whole. He is 'the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.' There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!
Let us pray together.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your salvation. We confess that we are sinners in need of Your grace and mercy. We believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, who died on the cross for our sins and rose again on the third day. We confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that You raised Him from the dead. We turn from our sins and turn to You, seeking Your forgiveness and Your righteousness of Christ.
Help us to live a life that is pleasing to You, to follow and obey Jesus, and to read and study Your Word. Guide us by Your Holy Spirit and give us the strength to resist temptation and to overcome sin.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
