We rejoice in your desire to seek salvation, as it is the most important decision anyone can make. You have taken the first step by looking to the Word of God for guidance. As it is written in Romans 10:9-10, "if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
First, let us address the importance of confessing and believing in Jesus Christ. It is only through His name that we can be saved, as the Bible clearly states in Acts 4:12, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." This means that no other person, belief, or religion can grant us eternal life.
To truly believe in Jesus, we must also repent of our sins, turning away from our old life and committing to follow Him. As Jesus Himself said in Luke 9:23, "If any man desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me." This means we must be willing to put aside our own desires and obey His commands.
You mentioned reading and studying the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. This is an excellent place to start, as they provide a detailed account of Jesus' life, teachings, death, and resurrection. We would recommend beginning with the Gospel of John, as it was specifically written "that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name" (John 20:31).
As you embark on this journey, we encourage you to pray fervently, asking God to reveal Himself to you and to grant you understanding as you read His Word. Remember that seeking God with all our heart means being willing to obey Him in all aspects of our lives.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this person who is seeking Your face and the salvation that comes only through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Grant them the gift of faith to believe in Him, and the courage to confess Him as Lord. Help them to turn away from their sins and to follow Jesus with all their heart.
As they begin to read and study Your Word, we ask that You would grant them understanding and revelation. Open their eyes to see the truth of the Gospel, and their hearts to receive it. Give them a hunger and thirst for righteousness, and a desire to obey You in all things.
We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
