We rejoice in your desire to seek salvation, as it is the most important decision anyone can make. You have taken the first step by looking to the Word of God for guidance. As you have shared, Romans 10:9-10 states, If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. This is the core of the good news, the Gospel. The first and most important part of beginning a relationship with God is faith in Jesus Christ. Believing that Jesus is not just a good man but God incarnate, the Savior, the Messiah, the Son of the Most High God. Again, believing that Jesus died for our sins that we might be saved and rose again from the dead to give us new life.
It is wonderful that you also mentioned the need to confess and turn from your sins. True faith in Jesus Christ will result in a changed life. This does not mean that we will never sin again, but rather that sin will not have dominion over us. We will desire to live lives that are pleasing to God. There is a Godly sorrow that leads to repentance. This is a gift from God. As you journey with Jesus and walk with him, ask him to give you a Godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Ask him to help you turn from your sins and follow him. This is not something that we can do in our own power, but rather something that we do by the grace of God. 1 John 1:9 tells us if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.
You also mentioned the desire to follow and obey Jesus. This is also a gift from God. Ask God to give you the gift of obedience. Ask him to help you want to obey him. Ask him to help you obey him. Again, this is not something that we can do in our own power, but rather something that we do by the grace of God. Jesus himself said in John 14:15 If you love me, keep my commandments.
Reading and studying the Word of God is essential for spiritual growth. We commend your commitment to start with the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, with a particular focus on the Book of John. As you delve into these accounts of Jesus' life and ministry, pray that the Holy Spirit will open your heart and mind to understand and apply the Scriptures. John 20:31 tells us but these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name. Ask God to give you faith in Jesus Christ as you read the Word of God. Ask him to help you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Ask him to give you life through Jesus name. Remember that the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You with a grateful heart for the seeker who desires salvation. We pray that You will open their heart and mind to receive the good news of the Gospel. Help them to truly believe in their heart and confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord. Give them faith in Jesus Christ. Help them to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Help them to confess and turn from their sins. Give them a Godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Help them to have a desire to obey you. Help them to obey you. Give them new life. Give them eternal life. Help them to know you, the one true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
As they embark on studying Your Word, we ask that the Holy Spirit will guide them, illuminating the Scriptures and applying them to their life. Help them to be doers of the word and not hearers only. Give them ears to hear and eyes to see.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
