We rejoice in your desire to seek salvation, as it is the most important decision anyone can make. You have taken the first step by looking to the Word of God for guidance. As you have shared, Romans 10:9-10 states, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved."
This is the core of the gospel message. Believing in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is the only way to salvation. As it is written in Acts 4:12, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." It is through faith in Jesus that we are justified and redeemed.
We encourage you to not only confess Jesus as your Savior but also to turn from your sins. Jesus said to his disciples: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." The first word Jesus preached was repentance and turning from your sins is called repentance.
Repentance means changing your mind and direction from being focused on your sins and toward Jesus Christ. Follow Jesus in obedience. In John 14:15 he says: "If ye love me, keep my commandments". Love and obedience are linked to following Christ.
We rejoice in your commitment to read and study the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. It is the words of Jesus that lead to eternal life. Starting in the book of John is a wonderful idea, as it presents a clear picture of who Jesus is and why He came. As you read, pray that the Holy Spirit will open your heart and mind to understand and apply God's Word to your life. John 20:31 says "But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You with a heart full of gratitude for the seeker who is looking for salvation. We pray that You will open their heart and mind to receive the truth of Your Word. Help them to understand the magnitude of Your love and the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for our sins. Grant them the faith to believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and the courage to confess Him with their mouth.
We pray that You will guide them as they read and study Your Word. May the Holy Spirit reveal the truth of the Gospel to them, and may they find eternal life in Jesus Christ. Help them to repent and be forgiven of their sins.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen
Let us encourage you: Now that you have received him as your savior, you should be baptised by full immersion in water. This is a public declaration of your faith. Speak to your pastor or a Christian believer to arrange this.
