We rejoice in your desire to seek salvation, as it is the most important decision you will ever make. You have taken the first step by looking to the Word of God for guidance. As you have shared, Romans 10:9-10 tells us: "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
This is the foundation of our faith—believing in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and confessing this belief openly. It is through faith in Jesus that we are saved, not by any works of our own, as it is told to us in Ephesians 2:8-9: "for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast."
But believing in Jesus also means turning away from our sins, as Acts 3:19 tells us: "Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord." This is not just about acknowledging our sins, but committing to turn away from them and live a life that honors God.
You have also been guided to read and study the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, starting with the book of John. This is wonderful advice, as these books tell us the story of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. It is through understanding His story that we come to know Him more deeply.
As you embark on this journey, pray that God will open your heart and mind to His truths. Pray that He will guide you and give you the strength to follow His path. Remember, Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28-30: "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this soul who is seeking Your truth. Open their heart and mind to Your Word, Lord. Guide them as they read and study the Scriptures, and give them the courage to confess their sins and turn away from them. Give them the strength to follow Jesus, to obey His commandments, and to live a life that honors You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
