We are so glad to hear from someone seeking salvation. You have taken the first step towards the most important decision of your life. Let us first ensure that you understand the path to salvation. It is wonderful that you quoted Romans 10:9-10, which clearly outlines what we need to do:
"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Confessing and believing in Jesus is the key to salvation. It is only through Jesus Christ and by believing he died on the cross to forgive your sins. He is the mediator between us and God. There is no other name by which we can be saved. You need to believe this and accept him as your Lord and Savior. This is what is meant by believing in your heart.
In addition to believing, you must also confess your sins and turn away from them. This is called repentance. Repentance means to have remorse, but also to not continue in your sin. Confessing your sins by acknowledging them to God in prayer with a remorseful heart and asking for forgiveness.
True salvation will result in a changed life. This means you will live your life from now on as a new creation in Christ and have a relationship with Jesus Christ. You will want to follow Him and His commands. You will want to read His word, the Bible, and communicate with him in prayer. You will want to learn what the Bible says and live accordingly in obedience. Continuing to willfully sin after you have knowledge of God's will on the matter is disobedience to God. You are however not expected to be perfect. You will need to confess and repent when you continue to sin. But you will not want to willfully sin.
Let's pray together for your salvation:
Dear Lord,
We come before You with a humble heart, lifting up this person who is seeking Your face. We pray that You will reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way, Lord. We ask that convict their heart of their sins and lead them to true repentance. We believe that You, Lord, raised Jesus from the dead, and we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord. We pray that this person will also believe this and be saved.
Help them to turn from their sins and follow You, obeying Your commands. Help them to find others who believe in you for fellowship. Help them to find your will for their life and live in it. In Jesus' name we pray.
Amen.
Now that you have made a decision to follow Christ, it is important to grow in your faith. You mentioned starting with the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, which is a wonderful place to begin. The scriptures will guide you and help you understand how to live a life that is pleasing to God. It is important to be baptized with water and the Holy Spirit and to continue to study and pray. Also consider finding a Bible-believing church for fellowship and growth.
We encourage you to share your new faith. The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 3:15, "But sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord: and be ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, yet with humility and fear."
We are here to support you in your journey. God bless you as you begin this new life in Christ.
