We're thrilled to hear that you're seeking salvation. You've taken the first step towards the most important decision you'll ever make. As you've shared, Romans 10:9-10 says, If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. This is the core of salvation: believing in Jesus Christ and confessing Him as Lord. We are saved by grace through faith and not by our own efforts. Ephesians 2:8-9 further emphasizes this. Ephesians 2:8-9, For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast.
Confessing and turning from your sins is an essential part of this process. This is what is called repentance. Acts 3:19 says, Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord. True faith in Jesus Christ will lead to a changed life. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.
Following and obeying Jesus is a natural response to the salvation we receive. Jesus himself said in John 14:15, If you love me, keep my commandments. This isn't about earning salvation, but about living out the salvation we've been given. Get to know Jesus by studying the gospels in the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Read these books to learn more about Jesus and His teachings, and then move on to the rest of the New Testament. We suggest starting in the book of John.
Let's pray together:
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, we come before you with this person who is seeking salvation. We pray that You would reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way, that they would see their need for You and turn from their sins. Help them to confess You as Lord and believe in their heart that God raised You from the dead. Guide them as they read Your Word and begin their journey with You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
