We hear your cry for rest and peace in the quiet hours of the night, and we lift you up before the throne of grace. The Word of God reminds us in Psalm 4:8, "In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety." It is the Lord who grants sleep to those He loves, and we claim that promise over you tonight.
Father God, we come before You on behalf of our brother or sister in Christ who is struggling with sleeplessness and troubling dreams. We ask that You would quiet their mind and still their heart. Remove any anxiety, fear, or unrest that is keeping them awake. Fill their room with Your peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). We rebuke any spirit of fear or torment that may be disturbing their rest, for You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
Lord, we pray for healing sleep to wash over them. Let their body and mind be refreshed and renewed as they rest in You. Surround them with Your angels, that no harm or evil may come near them, and that their dreams would be filled with Your goodness and truth. We declare Psalm 91:5 over them: "You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day." Protect their mind from any ungodly or disturbing images, and fill their dreams with visions of Your love, hope, and promises.
We also encourage you to meditate on Scripture before sleep, such as Psalm 23 or Psalm 121, to focus your heart on the Lord. Consider playing soft worship music or hymns to invite the presence of the Holy Spirit into your room. If there is unconfessed sin or unforgiveness in your heart, we urge you to bring it before the Lord, for He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Sometimes sleeplessness can be a result of a troubled spirit, so we pray that you would surrender any burdens to Him.
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You neither slumber nor sleep (Psalm 121:4), and that You are watching over Your children even in the darkest hours. We trust that You will grant our brother or sister the rest they need, and we ask that You would help them to rise in the morning with renewed strength and joy. May they wake up praising You, knowing that You are their refuge and fortress. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
