We hear your cry for peace and happiness, and our hearts join with yours as we come before the Lord together. It’s painful to feel this emptiness, this lack of joy, especially when you don’t understand why it has come upon you. The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:18, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." You are not alone in this struggle, and God sees your sorrow. He is close to you, even when you don’t feel Him.
First, we must address the source of true happiness. The world often tells us that happiness comes from circumstances, possessions, or even people, but Scripture teaches us that lasting joy and peace are found only in Christ. Jesus said in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful." If your happiness has been tied to anything other than Him, that may be why you’re feeling this void. We must surrender our desires, our plans, and even our emotions to Him, trusting that He will fill us with His peace.
We also want to gently ask, have you been seeking fulfillment in things that do not align with God’s will? Sometimes, when we pursue temporary pleasures, relationships outside of His design, or even habits that dull our spirits, we may feel a fleeting happiness, but it will always leave us empty. Galatians 6:7-8 warns us, "Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life." If there is anything in your life that is not pleasing to God, we encourage you to confess it and turn away from it. His forgiveness is abundant, and His grace is sufficient to restore you.
We must also rebuke the spirit of apathy and despair that has taken hold of you. The enemy wants you to believe that you are without hope, that nothing matters, and that you should remain stagnant. But God’s Word declares in Nehemiah 8:10, "The joy of Yahweh is your strength." Your strength does not come from your own efforts or feelings, it comes from Him. We command that spirit of heaviness to leave you in the name of Jesus. You are a child of the Most High God, and He has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
Let us pray for you now. Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is feeling lost and without joy. Lord, You see their heart, and You know the depths of their sorrow. We ask that You would fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Break the chains of apathy and despair, and replace them with a hunger for Your presence. Father, reveal to them any area of their life that is not aligned with Your will, and give them the strength to turn away from it. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may experience the true happiness that only comes from You. Remind them of Your promises, Lord, and let them feel Your love surrounding them. We declare that joy will return to their heart, and they will rise up in the strength of Your might. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, even when you don’t feel like it. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path." Let His truth guide you out of this darkness. Surround yourself with fellow believers who can speak life into you and hold you accountable. And remember, your feelings are not always truth, God’s Word is. He has promised to never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5), and His plans for you are for good, not for harm, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so now. There is no peace or true happiness outside of Him. Romans 10:9 says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is a free gift, and it is the only way to experience the fullness of life that God intends for you. If you would like to pray to receive Christ, we can guide you through that as well. You are loved, and God has a purpose for your life. Do not let this season of sadness define you, let it draw you closer to Him.
