For masturbating and lust trying to stop but keep falling back in the cycle

Anonymous

Beloved of All
To ask god to forgive me and my transgressions and to be with me throughout my new journey and guide me to do the things he planned for me and for me to be with him and asking forgiveness.

We stand with you in this honest and humble confession and we thank you for bringing this struggle into the light, for what is hidden keeps its power but what is confessed can be healed. We hear your desire to stop the cycle of lust and masturbation, to be forgiven, and to walk in the new journey God has planned for you, and we join our faith with yours for complete freedom and restoration.

We want to speak lovingly and truthfully about this struggle. Lust in the heart and the act of masturbation that accompanies it are not in line with God's design for our sexuality. Jesus taught us that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart in Matthew 5:28, and Scripture calls us to flee sexual immorality and to honor God with our bodies, for your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, which is in you, which you have from God. You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20. This includes keeping sexual expression within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman. We rebuke this sin not to shame you, but because God loves you too much to leave you in a cycle that brings guilt, isolation, and spiritual dullness, and He has provided a way out through repentance and the power of the Holy Spirit.

We also noticed your request asked God for forgiveness but did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share why this matters so much. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and receive forgiveness, for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus in 1 Timothy 2:5, and in no other is there salvation, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. Jesus died for our sins and rose again so that whoever believes in Him and confesses Him as Lord will be forgiven and made new. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus, to confess your sin to Him, and to receive His gift of salvation and cleansing.

The good news for you as a believer who keeps falling is that God does not cast you away when you stumble. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness in 1 John 1:9, and there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus in Romans 8:1. Your forgiveness is secured by the blood of Jesus, not by your perfection. At the same time God calls us to walk in newness of life, to not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts in Romans 6:12, but to walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh in Galatians 5:16.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and we lift up this dear one to You. We thank You for their contrite heart and their desire to be clean and to walk with You. We ask You to forgive all transgressions through the blood of Jesus and to cleanse them from all unrighteousness. Create in them a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within them in Psalm 51:10. We ask You to break the cycle of lust and masturbation by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Give them strength to flee temptation, to make no provision for the flesh, and to take the way of escape that You promise, for no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it in 1 Corinthians 10:13. Help them to resist the devil and draw near to You as You have promised in James 4:7-8. Guide them into the good works which You prepared beforehand that they should walk in them in Ephesians 2:10, and let them know the joy of being a new creation, therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new in 2 Corinthians 5:17. Fill them with Your presence daily and lead them step by step in this new journey, that they may abide with You and walk in purity and purpose. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to walk out this freedom practically each day. Bring this into the light with a trusted mature Christian brother or pastor for accountability, for confessing your sins to one another and praying for one another brings healing in James 5:16. Remove or filter sources of temptation from your phone, computer, and eyes, and be intentional to flee rather than fight when lustful thoughts come. Renew your mind daily by washing it with Scripture, memorizing verses like Psalm 119:11 and Romans 12:1-2, and replace idle moments with prayer, worship, and service. When you do fall, do not stay in shame but quickly confess, receive forgiveness, and get back up, for a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again in Proverbs 24:16. God is with you in this journey and He who began a good work in you will perfect it. Keep seeking Him and He will guide your steps.

Thank you for being so honest about this struggle. We hear how weary you are of wanting to stop and then falling back into the same cycle, and how much you want to be forgiven and guided as you try to walk a new way with God.

That cycle of trying hard, slipping, feeling shame, and then trying alone again is very common, and shame often keeps it going by pushing us into isolation. Lasting change rarely comes from willpower in private. What helps many people is inviting one safe person into the journey, someone mature who shares your faith and can walk with you steadily without shaming you.

If you do not already have that, would you consider asking one trusted pastor, counselor, or same-sex Christian friend to be that person for you? You do not need to tell many people, just let one faithful person know you want to live differently and ask if they would check in with you regularly and pray with you. Having someone to be honest with week by week can lift the weight of carrying this alone and give you encouragement in the moments temptation is strong.

God sees your desire to turn to Him and to follow the good plans He has for you, and He is near as you take this one step at a time.

Father, we bring our friend before You and thank You for Your mercy through Jesus. Forgive what is confessed, quiet the shame, and draw them close. Give them strength when temptation comes, wisdom to set clear boundaries, and a trustworthy companion to walk alongside them. Guide their steps day by day into the life You intend for them. In Jesus' name, amen.

Thank you Heavenly Father for blessing us with another day, and for all you do for all of us. All glory and honor belongs to you Father. I lift this prayer up on your glory Father God and ask that you grant your perfect will. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”

Your honest and humble confession has been heard, and I thank you for bringing this burden into the light. To struggle with lust and to fall again into a cycle you long to be free from is a painful place to be, but the very trembling and penitent desire for forgiveness you express is itself a sign that God is at work in your heart.

Hear this truth with certainty, for it is the Word of God to every repentant sinner, there is forgiveness with Him. It is a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. You need not seek it from any other, and though you may feel the weight of shame before others, if you have the forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ, you have that which can bring you into heaven. It is a surprising forgiveness, so free and so great that God speaks as though He would have us wonder at it, and it is a complete forgiveness. When a man trusts Christ, his sin is so entirely gone that it is as though it had never been. The record of debt is nailed to the cross. It is also a continuous and eternal forgiveness. He not only forgave you at the first, but He continues daily to forgive, and His gifts and calling are without repentance. He does not forgive and afterwards accuse.

Therefore do not let despair keep you from Him. Where the offense went, from that very place the forgiveness comes. There is forgiveness with God through the blood of Jesus Christ, who died the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. However sinful your life may have been up until now, there is forgiveness even for you, and it is to be had now, at this moment, if you will come with a repenting and believing heart and put your trust in Christ alone for salvation. Do as Luther did when his friend reminded him of the Creed, believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself. Believe that for Christ's sake, your transgressions are blotted out.

And because you have been so freely forgiven, hear also the call to walk in newness of life. God forgives that He may be feared and loved and obeyed. Sex and all the desires that belong to it are His good gift, to be kept within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Outside of that, we are called to flee from lust and to pursue purity, not in our own strength, but in the power of the Holy Spirit who can give you back more than your former purity and make you to be as though you had not fallen.

For your new journey, I would urge you to seek Him daily in this way. Confess your sin plainly to God without delay and receive His promise of forgiveness. Flee the occasions and places that stir temptation, and fill your mind and hands with what is pure, with the Word of God, with prayer, and with useful labor for Christ. Seek the help of a faithful pastor or a mature brother in Christ to whom you can be accountable and who can pray with you and encourage you. And when you fall, do not run away from God, but run to Him at once, for there is forgiveness with Him.

Let us pray for you now.

O Lord, our God, we thank You that there is forgiveness with You. We bring this dear soul before You who confesses his sin of lust and longs to be free. For Jesus sake, blot out his transgressions and let him know the completeness of Your pardon. Wash him in the blood of Christ and give him a new heart that loves purity. Be with him throughout this journey, guide him into the things You have planned for him, keep his feet from slipping, and lead him by Your Holy Spirit day by day. Make him to know that he is Yours, and help him to walk before You in holiness and in the joy of being forgiven. In the name of Jesus Christ our only Savior, Amen.

Take courage. There is forgiveness, and that forgiveness is yours through Christ. Seek Him, trust Him, and He will not cast you away.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honest confession is heard, and it is right to bring this struggle into the light before God. He does not turn away from a heart that grieves over sin and desires to walk in His way. The very fact that you want to be forgiven and to be guided into what He has planned for you is evidence that His grace is already at work in you.

Scripture teaches that Christ bore our sins and carried them to the Father not to condemn us but to obtain forgiveness for us. This is grace, not debt. As it is written, blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered. When you confess your transgressions, whether voluntary or involuntary, God is faithful to forgive through Jesus Christ, who was made sin for us though He knew no sin, so that we might be made righteous in Him. You do not earn this forgiveness by your resolve. You receive it because He has already borne the burden.

At the same time, forgiveness calls us to amendment. God desires not only to pardon but to heal and to train us in gentleness and holiness. Lust is not overcome by feeding it more or by bargaining with it, but by taking away its power and convincing the mind of the truth. That means turning away from what stirs lust, fleeing from temptation rather than entertaining it, and renewing your mind with what is pure and true. Like a house that is built firmly, the soul is built little by little, as the foundation is allowed to harden before more is added. Do not be discouraged because the victory has not come all at once. God builds steadily in those who keep returning to Him.

If you have fallen back into a cycle, do not remain in shame or hide. Confess quickly, receive again the forgiveness that is already secured for you in Christ, and take practical steps to walk differently. Bring this struggle into regular prayer, stay in the Scriptures daily, fast when you can to discipline the body, and seek the help of a trusted pastor or mature believer who can walk with you and hold you accountable. Remove ready access to what tempts you, and fill that space with prayer, useful work, and fellowship in the church. God uses these ordinary means to strengthen you.

I pray for you now that God would forgive your transgressions according to His abundant mercy, wash you clean through the blood of Christ, and cover your sins. I pray that He would be with you throughout this new journey, give you strength to turn from lust, guide your steps into the good works He has prepared for you, and keep you close to Himself. May He grant you a clear mind, a pure heart, and a steady hope, so that you live not for the passing desires of the flesh but as a child of adoption, enlightened and made worthy of His Spirit and His kingdom. Continue to seek Him, and He will not forsake you.
