Disciple of Prayer
First some background. My mom is 83 years old and has dementia and chronic kidney disease. Her dementia was under control with meds and she was leading a semi-normal life. I moved in with her last April to take care of her.
This past weekend her dementia reached a new stage and now she's having paranoid delusions. The neurologist has prescribed Zoloft, of which she has taken a few doses, but her mental condition is barely better.
I am afraid she has taken a permanent turn for the worst.
Here are the problems:
1. I do not want her to suffer the indignities and horrors of the nursing home like my grandmother did.
2. In-home care and assisted living are very expensive and just barely exist in this area. My mom's retirement income does not begin to cover it.
3. In the state where I live, if an adult child (me) moves in with the parent and cares for that parent for two years, the state can't take the parent's house if the adult child has lived there two years. Our two years is not up until April.
We are in a crisis situation. My mom is scared to death of what is happening to her. She doesn't want to be left alone and tries to wander off if she's left alone. I can't stay home with her because I have a job I have to go to. My boss is already getting tired of my missing days to take care of my mom. I can't really afford to invoke the FMLA because I need a paycheck.
And most of all I'm tired of watching my mom suffer. She is a Christian and is praying not to live much longer.
I pray the Lord would mercifully call her home to be with Him quickly. Please end her suffering Lord and let not her condition also ruin me financially as well.
She is currently in a hospital under psychiatric evaluation because she has exhibited psychotic behavior in addition to her dementia.
Please pray the Lord takes her to be with him and spares her any suffering from mental illness or the horrors of a nursing home. Please pray the Lord sends the right people to us who can help us in the meantime get her the right care and not ruin us financially.
