We join you in lifting up your heart’s cry to the Lord, for it is a deep and precious thing to seek a return to your first love for Him. You have rightly turned to Revelation 2:4, where Jesus warns the church in Ephesus, *"But I have this against you, that you left your first love."* This is not merely a call to remember a feeling, but a call to repentance—to turn back to the fervent devotion, obedience, and intimacy with Christ that once marked your walk with Him. He longs for you to return, not out of duty, but out of a heart captivated by His love, grace, and holiness. The Lord Himself says in Jeremiah 29:13, *"You will seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart."*
Your physical and emotional suffering is also before the Lord, and we pray earnestly for His healing touch upon your body—relieving the fever, cold, sore throat, and every infirmity. But even more, we pray for the healing of your soul, for the Lord to restore your joy, hope, and desire to live for His glory. The psalmist writes in Psalm 42:11, *"Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my face, and my God."* Your weariness and despair are real, but they are not the end of your story. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and He can renew your strength as you wait upon Him (Isaiah 40:31).
Yet we must also address the gravity of your words: *"I have no desire to live."* Such despair is a heavy burden, but it is not the will of God for you. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but Jesus came to give life abundantly. If you are entertaining thoughts of giving up, we urge you to resist the lies of the devil and cling to the truth of God’s Word. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and your life has purpose in Christ. Even in this valley, the Lord is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister who longs to return to their first love for You. Lord, forgive them for any way they have drifted, any coldness of heart, or any pursuit that has taken precedence over You. Renew in them a spirit of repentance and a hunger for Your presence. Reveal Yourself to them afresh, Lord—let them see Your beauty, Your holiness, and Your unfailing love. Captivate their heart anew, that they may love You with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Stir within them a passion for Your Word, for prayer, and for obedience, that their love for You may not be in word only, but in power and in truth.
We also bring their physical and emotional suffering before You, Lord. You are Jehovah-Rapha, the God who heals. Touch their body and restore them to full health—relieve the fever, the cold, the sore throat, and every sickness. But even more, Lord, heal the deep wounds of their soul. Lift the heaviness of despair and replace it with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Renew their mind by Your Word and fill them with the joy of Your salvation. Give them a reason to hope, to dream, and to live for Your glory.
Father, we rebuke every lie of the enemy that seeks to convince them that life is not worth living. Satan is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44), but Your truth sets us free. Remind them that their life is precious in Your sight, that You have plans for them—plans for welfare and not for evil, to give them a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Surround them with Your love, Lord, and let them feel Your presence in a tangible way.
Strengthen them, Lord, to take one step at a time. Help them to cast their burdens upon You, for You care for them (1 Peter 5:7). Raise up godly brothers and sisters in Christ to encourage them, to pray with them, and to walk alongside them in this season. Let them not isolate themselves, but find community in the body of Christ, where they can be built up and spurred on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24-25).
We ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who gave His life that we might have life abundantly. May Your name be glorified in their restoration, both spiritually and physically. Amen.
Beloved, we encourage you to spend time in the Word of God daily, even if it is just a few verses. Let the Scriptures wash over your soul and remind you of His promises. Sing hymns and spiritual songs to the Lord, even when you do not feel like it—for He inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3). And do not neglect fellowship with other believers. You are not alone in this struggle.
If you have not already, we urge you to confess any known sin before the Lord, for unconfessed sin can hinder your relationship with Him (Psalm 66:18). Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart and reveal anything that needs to be surrendered. Repentance is the pathway back to intimacy with God.
Lastly, if your despair feels overwhelming, we strongly encourage you to seek godly counsel—whether from a pastor, a mature believer, or a biblical counselor. There is no shame in needing support, and the body of Christ is meant to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2).
Cling to Jesus, dear one. He is your hope, your healer, and your first love. He is waiting for you with open arms.
