Feeling. I

Beloved of All
I’m in a situation where I signed a lease after being month-to-month tenant, while being in arrears and unemployed. At the time I had a low outstanding balance and was anxious to get it paid off. The landlord told me “you need an active lease to receive a voucher.” My mind went straight to voucher and balance covered. Now I’m have a new lease and can’t pay back rent nor future rent. It was a very unwise decision. I spoke to the landlord about cancelling the lease but he refused. Now I may be evicted because the arrears amount is so high. Tomorrow I’m set to meet with an advocate. I hope that I can get some food guidance. Father, I was only trying to pay my arrears. I just wish I had the funds to pay it off but I don’t and feel very foolish and discouraged.

We hear your distress and recognize the weight of the situation you’re facing. The fear of eviction, the burden of arrears, and the regret over a decision made in haste are heavy to carry. But we want to remind you that our Heavenly Father sees your heart—He knows you were trying to do what you thought was right, and He does not despise a broken and contrite spirit (Psalm 51:17). Even in this, He is working for your good (Romans 8:28), though the path may feel uncertain now.

First, we must address the spiritual foundation of this struggle. You mentioned praying to the "Father," but we must emphasize that it is only through the name of **Jesus Christ** that we have access to God (John 14:6). There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we urge you to confess your sins, believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and surrender your life to Him. He is the only way to true peace, wisdom, and provision. Without Him, we are lost in our own strength—but with Him, all things are possible (Philippians 4:13).

Now, regarding your situation, we see a few key concerns that must be addressed with both practical wisdom and biblical truth:

1. **The Lease Agreement & Deception** – You were told that signing a new lease was necessary to receive a voucher, but now it seems that promise was either misleading or unclear. Proverbs 12:22 tells us, *"Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight."* If the landlord misrepresented the terms, this is a matter of injustice. We rebuke any deceit in this situation and pray that God exposes the truth. However, we also recognize that you entered into this agreement, and Scripture calls us to honor our commitments (Ecclesiastes 5:4-5). This is why seeking legal counsel is wise—so that you can navigate this with both integrity and protection.

2. **Financial Stewardship & Repentance for Poor Decisions** – You acknowledge that signing the lease while unemployed and in arrears was unwise. Proverbs 22:7 warns, *"The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender."* Debt is a snare, and we must be careful not to make financial decisions out of fear or desperation. We do not condemn you, but we encourage you to repent for any recklessness and ask God for wisdom moving forward. He promises to give it generously to those who ask (James 1:5).

3. **Trusting God for Provision** – You mentioned feeling foolish and discouraged because you lack the funds to pay what you owe. But our God is Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord who provides (Genesis 22:14). He knows your needs before you even ask (Matthew 6:8), and He is able to open doors no man can shut (Revelation 3:8). We pray that He will make a way where there seems to be no way—whether through the advocate’s assistance, a sudden employment opportunity, or even divine favor with your landlord. Do not lose heart; the righteous may face trials, but the Lord delivers them (Psalm 34:19).

4. **The Meeting with the Advocate** – Tomorrow’s meeting is an opportunity for God to move. Proverbs 15:22 says, *"Without counsel, plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed."* We pray that the advocate will have wisdom, compassion, and the right connections to help you. We also pray that you would walk into that meeting with confidence, not in your own strength, but in the Lord’s (Philippians 4:13).

Let us now lift this burden to the Lord in prayer:

**Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved and the only way to You. Lord, we lift up this dear one who is facing eviction, debt, and deep discouragement. You see the weight on their heart, and You know the fear they carry. We ask that You would be their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).**

**Lord, we rebuke the spirit of deception that may have been at work in this situation. We pray that any untruths would be exposed and that justice would prevail. We also ask for forgiveness for any unwise decisions made out of fear or haste. Your Word says that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We pray for a repentant heart and a renewed mind in Christ Jesus.**

**Father, we declare that You are Jehovah-Jireh, the God who provides. You fed the Israelites in the wilderness, You multiplied the widow’s oil, and You own the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10). We ask that You would open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it (Malachi 3:10). Provide employment, financial breakthrough, and favor with the landlord. Let this advocate be a vessel of Your grace and wisdom.**

**Lord, we pray for peace to guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Remove the spirit of fear and replace it with trust in You. Remind them that You have not given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Strengthen them for the meeting tomorrow, and let Your will be done in every detail.**

**We thank You, Father, that You are working all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). We trust You to turn this situation around for Your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.**

Now, dear one, we want to leave you with this encouragement: **Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus** (Philippians 4:6-7). You are not alone in this. The Lord is your helper; what can man do to you? (Hebrews 13:6).

Go into that meeting tomorrow with your head held high, not in pride, but in the confidence that God is with you. Seek His wisdom above all else, and trust that He will make a way. We will continue to stand in the gap for you in prayer. You are not forgotten.

We're right there with you, friend. It's easy to feel overwhelmed when faced with such a heavy burden, but remember, God sees you and He's right there with you. We've been praying for you, and we want you to know that you're not alone in this.

We've been thinking about your situation, and we want to encourage you with a few things:

First, keep trusting in God's provision. He's the one who supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Even when it seems like there's no way out, He can make a way where there seems to be none (Isaiah 43:16). So, keep trusting in Him, and keep asking Him for wisdom and guidance.

Next, be honest with yourself and with God about the decisions you've made. It's clear that signing that lease was not the wisest choice, but it's important to learn from it and move forward. God is not condemning you, but He wants you to grow in wisdom and understanding. So, ask Him for forgiveness where you've fallen short, and ask Him to help you make better decisions in the future.

Also, remember that God is a God of justice. If there's been any deception or injustice in this situation, He will make it right. So, trust in His justice and His timing.

Lastly, we want to remind you of God's promise in Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." God has a good plan for your life, and He's working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). So, keep trusting in Him, and keep moving forward one step at a time.

We'll keep you in our prayers, and we're here for you if you need to talk or if there's anything else we can do to support you. You've got this, with God by your side!

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
