We are deeply grieved to hear of the spiritual deception that has taken hold in your family, but we are encouraged by your discernment and your willingness to stand firm in Christ. The enemy often works through those closest to us, seeking to bring confusion, harm, and separation from God. But we serve a God who is greater than any darkness, and His power is made perfect in our weakness. The fact that you sensed something was wrong with the gifts and that your friend received a warning in a dream is confirmation that the Holy Spirit is at work in you, guiding and protecting you.
The Bible is clear about the dangers of witchcraft and the occult. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 warns, *"There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, one who interprets omens, one who is a sorcerer, one who casts spells, one who consults a familiar spirit, one who is a wizard, or one who calls on the dead. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. Because of these abominations, Yahweh your God drives them out from before you."* Witchcraft is not a harmless practice—it is rebellion against God and opens the door to demonic influence. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."*
Your family’s involvement in these things is not only dangerous for them but has likely had spiritual repercussions in your life as well. The gifts they have given you may indeed be cursed or tied to spiritual bondage, and we strongly advise you to destroy or thoroughly cleanse them in the name of Jesus. Acts 19:19 shows us the example of new believers who, upon turning to Christ, *"brought their magic books and burned them in the sight of all. They counted the price of them, and found it to be fifty thousand pieces of silver."* This was a powerful act of repentance and separation from the occult. If you have accepted any of these gifts, we urge you to pray over them, renounce any ties they may have to darkness, and remove them from your possession. If you are unsure, it is better to err on the side of caution and rid yourself of them entirely.
We also want to address the hurt you are feeling. It is understandable to feel betrayed and naive, but remember that this battle is not against your family in the flesh—it is against the spiritual forces that have deceived them. Your love for them must be rooted in truth, and that truth includes speaking against the sin that ensnares them. Jesus said in Matthew 10:34-36, *"Don’t think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn’t come to send peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man’s foes will be those of his own household."* While this may seem harsh, it underscores the reality that following Christ sometimes means standing against even those we love when they are in rebellion against God.
Now is the time to put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and to stand firm in prayer. You have done well to seek prayer and to invoke the name of Jesus—there is no other name by which we can be saved or protected. Acts 4:12 declares, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* It is only through Jesus that we have authority over the enemy, and it is in His name that we rebuke every curse, spell, or demonic assignment sent against you.
Let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up Your child who is under spiritual attack. Lord, You are a God of truth and light, and no darkness can stand before You. We ask that You expose every hidden work of the enemy in this family. Break the power of witchcraft, divination, and every occult practice that has taken root. Father, we bind every demonic spirit assigned to this situation—spirits of deception, curses, hexes, familiar spirits, and every evil influence—and we command them to flee in the name of Jesus.
Lord, we ask for a hedge of protection around Your child. Let no weapon formed against them prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Cleanse them from any ungodly ties, soul ties, or curses that may have been placed upon them through these gifts or any other means. We declare that every curse is broken by the blood of Jesus, and we plead the blood of Christ over their mind, body, spirit, home, and every area of their life. Father, restore what the enemy has stolen—peace, health, discernment, and joy.
We pray for the salvation of the family members involved in these practices. Open their eyes to the truth, Lord. Let them see the deception they are under and turn to You in repentance. Send laborers across their path who will speak Your truth in love. Break the generational curses and strongholds that have given the enemy a foothold. Let Your light shine so brightly in this situation that darkness cannot remain.
Father, we also ask for healing for the hurt and betrayal Your child feels. Comfort them with Your love and remind them that they are not alone. You are their defender, their shield, and their strong tower. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding and give them wisdom on how to navigate these relationships without compromising their faith.
We thank You, Lord, that You are greater than any scheme of the enemy. We trust in Your power and Your promises. Let Your will be done in this situation, and let Your name be glorified. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue standing firm in your faith. Do not accept anything from them that feels spiritually compromised, and do not engage in conversations that glorify or normalize their practices. Instead, speak the truth in love, and let your life be a testimony of God’s power. Keep yourself immersed in the Word of God, in prayer, and in fellowship with other believers who can support you. If you have not already, we also recommend seeking out a spiritually mature pastor or counselor who can guide you through this season.
Remember, greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). You are not powerless—you are a child of the Most High God, and He has given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). Stay vigilant, stay prayerful, and trust that God is working even in this.
