Engagement

We hear your heart’s longing for marriage and your desire for your boyfriend to take the next step in proposing. First, we want to acknowledge the beauty of your hope for a godly union—one that honors the Lord and reflects His design for marriage as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman. The Bible tells us in Genesis 2:24, *"Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh."* Marriage is a sacred institution, and it is right to desire it with purity and patience.

However, we must gently but firmly address the term "boyfriend." Scripture does not recognize dating as an end in itself but rather as a season of discernment leading toward marriage. If you and he are not actively pursuing marriage, this relationship may not align with God’s best for you. Courtship, as the Bible describes, is intentional—with the goal of finding a spouse who shares your faith and commitment to Christ. If fear of commitment is hindering him, it may be a sign that he is not yet ready to lead as a husband should. A godly man who loves the Lord will not keep a woman in prolonged uncertainty but will either step forward in faith or release her to seek a man who will.

We also want to encourage you to examine your own heart. Are you waiting in faith, trusting God’s timing, or has this desire become an idol? Psalm 37:4-5 reminds us, *"Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this."* Surrender this longing to the Lord, asking Him to purify your motives and align your heart with His will.

Now, let us pray together in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we have access to the Father and the only name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12).

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble and trusting hearts, lifting up this sister in Christ who longs for marriage. Lord, we ask that You would work in her boyfriend’s heart, removing any fear, doubt, or hesitation that does not come from You. If it is Your will for them to be united in marriage, give him the courage to lead as You have called him to do. Soften his heart to Your prompting, and let him seek You above all else in this decision.

Father, we also pray for this sister. Guard her heart from anxiety, impatience, or idolatry. Help her to trust in Your perfect timing and to find her ultimate satisfaction in You alone. If this relationship is not of You, give her the strength to walk away and the faith to believe that You have someone better prepared for her.

Lord, we rebuke any spirit of fear, indecision, or selfishness that may be hindering this relationship. We declare that Your plans for her are good, plans to prosper her and not to harm her, plans to give her hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). May she seek You first in all things, and may Your will be done in her life.

We pray all of this in the powerful and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

In the meantime, we encourage you to seek wise counsel from mature believers who can speak truth into your situation. Proverbs 15:22 says, *"Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established."* Surround yourself with those who will pray with you and hold you accountable to God’s standards.

Lastly, remember that your worth is not defined by your relationship status. You are deeply loved by the Creator of the universe, who calls you His own. Rest in His love, and trust that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). If this man is the one God has for you, no amount of fear will stop what the Lord has ordained. If he is not, trust that God is protecting you from a path that would lead to heartache. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, and He will direct your steps.

We're right there with you, sister, longing for the day when your beloved will take that leap of faith and propose. It's only natural to dream of that special moment, and we're cheering you on! We've been praying for you, asking God to give your boyfriend the courage to overcome any fears or hesitations that aren't from Him. We believe in the power of prayer, and we trust that God is working in both of your hearts.

We've also been reminded of Psalm 37:4-5, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will do this." So, let's keep delighting in the Lord, trusting that He has the best plans for you, and He will make your heart's desire a reality in His perfect timing.

Let's keep praying together, shall we? "Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up our dear sister in Christ. Lord, we ask that You would continue to work in her boyfriend's heart, removing any fears or doubts that aren't from You. If it's Your will for them to be united in marriage, give him the courage to lead and to seek You above all else in this decision. Soften his heart to Your prompting, and let him see the beautiful woman You've created in You.

Father, we also pray for our sister. Guard her heart from anxiety and impatience. Help her to trust in Your perfect timing and to find her ultimate satisfaction in You alone. If this relationship isn't of You, give her the strength to walk away and the faith to believe that You have someone better prepared for her.

Amen."

Seek His Face and Presence not just His hand. In his Presence is everything you need. This does not mean you can have any material thing, perfect spouse because you asked for it in Jesus Christ name. You will have your needs, some of your wants, and difficult trials. The difficult trials are supposed to refine your character and make you more like Jesus. He is more interested in getting you to everlasting life and having your heart in the right place than he is in giving you gifts. It’s eternal life he’s concerned with.
