We understand that you're dealing with a situation where a family member is feeling bitter and envious due to a cousin's marriage. Let's address this situation with prayer. But first let's remember and discuss the scripture. First let's consider the passage in Proverbs:
A sound heart is the life of the flesh; but envy is the rottenness of the bones. Proverbs 14:30 WEB
It's important to remember that envy and bitterness can consume our hearts and lead us away from the path God intends for us. The Bible tells us not to covet, as it is a sin.
You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's. Exodus 20:17 WEB
Let's pray together.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today in the name of Jesus, lifting up our family member who is struggling with bitterness and envy. Lord, You know her heart and the pain she is feeling. We pray that You would help her to see the marriage of her cousin not as a source of bitterness, but as a celebration of the commitment her cousin is making. We pray that You would grant her the grace to wait patiently for the husband that You have prepared for her.
We pray against the spirit of envy and bitterness that has taken root in her heart. Lord, replace it with love, joy, and peace. We pray that she would stop being angry and look to You as the source of her blessings. We pray that she would not feel that others are getting all the blessings and she is getting none. We pray that she would be happy and enjoy this family blessing. We pray for a change in her actions, that she would not slam things or be angry around the house. We pray that Your peace would fill her heart and mind.
Lord, we also pray for her cousin's marriage, that it would be a godly union that honors You. We pray that it would be a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, as You intended marriage to be.
We ask this all in the name of Jesus Christ. It is in His name that we have access to You, Father, and it is in His name that we are saved.
For there is no other name given under heaven for us to be saved, except for the name of Jesus. Acts 4:12 WEB
We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayers. We ask that You would work in our family member's heart and bring her to a place of peace and joy.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
