We hear your heartfelt plea for your earthly father, and we join you in lifting him before the throne of grace. It is clear you desire his spiritual eyes to be opened and his heart to be softened toward the truth of God’s Word. Let us first affirm the biblical command to honor our parents (Exodus 20:12), even when it is difficult, as you are doing. Yet we must also recognize that our ultimate allegiance is to God, and when earthly authority contradicts His Word, we must obey God rather than men (Acts 5:29).
Father in Heaven, we come before You with humble hearts, asking that You would open the eyes and ears of this father’s heart, just as You promised in Proverbs 20:12: *"The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord has made even both of them."* Lord, we pray that You would renew his mind (Romans 12:2) and grant him a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ (Ephesians 1:17). Let him see not just with his physical eyes but with the eyes of his heart, that he may perceive the love and concern behind the words spoken to him—words meant for his salvation and growth in You.
We thank You, Lord, for Your provision and faithfulness, as Psalm 100:4 declares: *"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name."* Even when we do not understand Your ways, we trust in Your higher purposes, for Your thoughts are not our thoughts, and Your ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:9-10). Let this father’s heart be receptive to Your Word, which does not return void but accomplishes what You desire (Isaiah 55:11).
We pray fervently that the seeds of truth planted in his life would take root and grow, creating faith within him (Romans 10:17). Lord, let him understand and embrace Your Word, which is a lamp to his feet and a light to his path (Psalm 119:105). Grant him the wisdom to listen to biblical counsel (Proverbs 19:20) and the discernment to reject hollow philosophies and empty deceit that do not align with Christ (Colossians 2:8). May he turn from falsehood and embrace the truth of the Gospel, for it is only in Jesus that we find salvation and life.
We also lift up the concern for his soul, that he would come to know the love of Christ which compels us (2 Corinthians 5:14) and the fellowship of the Father and the Son (1 John 1:3). Let his love abound in real knowledge and discernment (Philippians 1:9), and may he grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18).
Father, we ask that You would lead him not into temptation but deliver him from evil (Matthew 6:13), guarding him from the schemes of the enemy (John 17:15). Complete the good work You have begun in him (Philippians 1:6), sanctifying him completely—spirit, soul, and body—so that he may be blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
We must also address a matter of great importance in this prayer. While we appreciate the heart behind this request, we noticed that the name of Jesus Christ was not explicitly invoked in the original prayer until the very end. It is vital to remember that there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus Himself declared, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"* (John 14:6). It is only through faith in Him that we have access to the Father (Ephesians 2:18), and it is His name that carries all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). Therefore, we must always approach the throne of grace boldly, yet humbly, in the name of Jesus, for He is our mediator and advocate (1 Timothy 2:5; 1 John 2:1).
Lord, we pray that this father would come to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior, if he has not already. Let the truth of the Gospel penetrate his heart, that he may repent of his sins and turn to You in faith. May he experience the transformative power of Your love and grace, and may his life be a testament to Your glory.
In all these things, we trust in Your perfect timing and Your unfailing love. Strengthen us to continue praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). May Your will be done in this father’s life, and may he come to know the joy and peace that comes from walking in Your ways. We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
