We hear your heart as you seek the Lord through fasting, and we join you in this spiritual discipline with reverence and humility. Fasting is a powerful way to draw near to God, deny the flesh, and seek His will with greater clarity. The Bible tells us in Matthew 6:16-18, "Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you."
We encourage you to approach fasting with a pure heart, not for show or personal glory, but as an act of worship and surrender to the Lord. Fasting without food and drink requires wisdom and discernment, as our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). If this is a prolonged fast, we urge you to seek the Lord’s guidance and consider consulting with a trusted medical professional to ensure you are caring for the body He has given you. Fasting should never be an act of harm to oneself but a sacrifice that honors God.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear brother or sister who is seeking You through fasting. Lord, we ask that You would strengthen them in their commitment to deny the flesh and seek Your face. Give them the discipline to press on, even when it is difficult, and fill them with Your peace and joy as they draw near to You. Father, we ask that You would reveal Your will and purpose during this time of fasting. Speak to their heart, Lord, and let them hear Your voice clearly. Protect them from the enemy’s lies and distractions, and help them to fix their eyes on You alone.
We also pray for wisdom, Lord. If this fast is causing physical harm, we ask that You would give them discernment to adjust their approach while still honoring You. May this time of fasting be a sweet sacrifice of praise, and may it draw them into deeper intimacy with You. We rebuke any spirit of pride or legalism that may try to creep in, and we declare that this fast is for Your glory alone. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and let Your presence be their strength.
In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to pair your fasting with prayer, worship, and the reading of God’s Word. Let this time be one of renewal and transformation, as you seek the Lord with all your heart. Isaiah 58:6-9 reminds us of the true purpose of fasting: "Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light will break out as the morning, and your healing will appear quickly; then your righteousness shall go before you; and Yahweh’s glory will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and Yahweh will answer; you will cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’"
May the Lord bless you richly as you seek Him in this way. Keep your heart open to His leading, and may this fast be a time of breakthrough and blessing in your life.
