We hear your frustration and we join with you in seeking peace in your building, for we know how disruptive it can be when rest is broken by loud work on a Saturday afternoon. We understand you are referring to a house order that was agreed upon at the last meeting that there be no drilling after 3 pm, and now that order is being disregarded, which feels disrespectful and rebellious.
We want to encourage you to guard your heart against bitterness and sweeping judgments even in this annoyance. To say the men in your building are so rebellious may come from real exasperation, but God calls us not to generalize or harbor resentment toward others, but to love our neighbors and pursue peace with all. We are reminded in Romans 12:18, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. And in Matthew 5:9, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. The Lord also teaches us about handling anger in Ephesians 4:26, Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and in James 1:19, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. A gentle approach can often restore order better than harsh confrontation, as Proverbs 15:1 tells us, A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

It is a trying thing to have your rest broken by the hammer and the drill, especially when the quiet of the day has been promised and the agreed order of the house is set aside. The heart is soon stirred, and a small noise can become a great vexation when it comes at an unseasonable hour.
There is a peace which does not depend upon the silence of the building, and it is that peace which you most need in such a moment. The prophet speaks of perfect peace, peace upon peace, for him whose mind is stayed upon God because he trusts in Him. That peace may be enjoyed even with sorrows surging round and with duties pressing, for the blood of Jesus whispers peace within. When the mind is stayed upon Christ, the outward disturbance need not become an inward storm. To do the will of Jesus, even in bearing a small trial with patience, is itself rest.
At the same time, love to our neighbour must rule our spirit when we are provoked. That love, if it is real, will prohibit rash anger. We are soon angry with a neighbour, yet we forgive ourselves quickly, and we are bound just as soon to forgive him. Let not the sun go down upon your anger, for revenge and cherished bitterness render obedience to this command impossible. It is right to desire that the house order be kept, and it is right to seek quiet, but it must be sought in a spirit of meekness, with a rough word withdrawn if it be too rough, and no more added to make it worse.
I would counsel you, therefore, to seek first peace with God through Jesus Christ, for there is no solid peace apart from Him. He is our peace, made through the blood of His cross, and when we have peace with God, we may then have peace of conscience like a crystal stream flowing from its fountain. That peace is a blessing which brings no sorrow with it, and it will keep your heart calm when the hammer sounds.
Then, in that calm, deal gently with your neighbour. Speak a quiet word in due season, remind him of the agreed hour, and if need be, let those who have charge of the building help to keep order. Pray also for those you call rebellious, that the Lord who alone can give boundless peace within Himself would renew their hearts and your own.
May the Lord bless you with His own peace, the peace which Christ leaves and gives, that you may go in peace through this trial and find that nothing shall offend those who love His law. I pray that He will keep you in perfect peace as your mind is stayed on Him, and that your dwelling may know that quietness which is the fruit of His Spirit.
