I am going to start this topic with a question, I will ask it again at the end and I want you to be honest to yourself with this answer. Answer it before you read and then again after you read (To yourself, I am not trying to see what you think, only trying to make you think).
Do we have the right to complain about our suffering?
Yes as Christians we are expected to feel suffering from time to time as it says in 2 Timothy 3:12 "Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted" and in Luke 14:27 "Whoever does not bare his own cross and come after me can not be my disciple". So yes it is to be expected that our choice to follow Gods word and live a life for the unseen will be difficult and full of trails.
The bible says about our sufferings we should rejoice James 1:2-4 "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trails of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness, and let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing". So our sufferings are designed to make us perfect and complete in Gods eyes. We all know its hard to smile when we feel the pain deep in our hearts of rejection from our wives, but if we compare what Christ went threw do we even have the right to complain?
Think about this my friends Christ was betrayed by a man who followed Him, ate with Him, Loved Him, Listened to Him and even did miracles with Him. Judas was not much different than a brother to Jesus in the aspect of how he was trusted. Not only that but the crowds of people who shouted with the Pharisees to crucify Him where the same people Jesus healed, loved and taught. These same people didn't think twice to kick Him, slap him, spit on him, ridicule, mock and shame Him. Jesus was flogged head to toe both sides of His body to the point where He was almost unrecognizable, and the same people laughed and rejoiced in His pain. A crown was fashioned out of thorns and driven into His head as the guards mocked and laughed at His misery treating Him as if He where a common thief or murder. Not only that the people he loved had a brutal killer released so they could punish Jesus for His actions of peace and love. Then they made Him carry on His already cut opened back a wooden cross with splinters digging into His sores all the while I am sure the salt from His sweat was causing even more pain as it went into His wounds. Thirsty and nothing to drink He was in pain and was slapped, kicked, punched, spit on and mocked all while the weight of the cross dug in his back and his head forcing the thorns deeper in. The people he healed and loved where all there laughing still at the sight of His misery. Then when He finally reached Calvary he was laid on the cross and they hammered nails into His flesh and into bone attaching Him to the cross He was already in pain from. And the people rejoiced at this. He was set up for all to see with the weight of His body pulling down on the nails in His flesh. And through all of this He cries out "Father forgive them for they know not what the do".
And this is not the worst part of His pain and suffering.
I would like you to really think about this, it wasn't the Jews, the people there, Judas or the Roman soldiers who killed Him. No it was you and me. At that very moment God pulled away from Jesus's presence and Jesus cried "Father why have you forsaken me" every single sin past, present and future went into His body. The pain of every heartache from the beginning of time to the very end of time, the pain of every angry thought we have ever had, the torture of every evil stronghold, the guilt of our adultery all of it hit Him all at once. Not only that He was no longer in Gods presence for all this to happen. We can never imagine the emptiness He must have felt when God pulled away. Sure we feel at times He isn't there, but He is, Isaiah 43:2 "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. All of this was to much for Jesus's flesh to handle and he died, not from His wounds, but from a broken heart.
Now let me ask that question again. After reading that and really seeing all He did for you and me, do we really have the right to complain about our suffering? Roman 8:18 "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.". I know there is no right or wrong answer to this because yes God does care and wants our pain to stop, He loves us more than anyone ever could, and I think He proved that love by what He let happen to His Son whom He loved. Not only that but Jesus could have stopped this at anytime by calling out to His Father to save Him, but He didn't.
So we should rejoice in our sufferings because al least we never had to endure what He had to, no what He chose to. Rejoice in our suffering because 1 Peter 5:10 "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you". Yes we suffer and for some of us it has been a long time, I agree this pain of rejection from our wives is painful and we cant help but cry. Remember one thing as we stand on Gods word and cry over our broken hearts and shattered dreams, remember that even though our wives reject us, hurt us, and even mock us; it is nothing compared to the pain and heartache that Jesus suffered on that day. No amount of pain we can find will ever amount up to a second that He felt when God pulled away and every sin came into Him. Think how much rejection He must have felt that very moment.
Thank you and God Bless
