We join with you in lifting up these divorced individuals to the Lord Jesus, as He is the great healer and redeemer. Divorce is not God's original design, as Malachi 2:16 says, I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel. However, we recognize that it occurs and that God is merciful and healing is always possible.
Firstly, we pray for healing and restoration. We ask You, Lord, to mend their broken hearts and bind up their wounds, as it says in Psalm 147:3: He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. For those who are struggling with the aftermath of divorce, we pray for Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
For those who desire to stay single, we pray for contentment and fulfillment in their relationship with You, Lord. We just pray that they would all be faithful to Jesus Christ and His will for their lives. We pray that they would delight in You and that You would give them the desires of their heart. Jesus should be all the satisfaction we need.
For those who desire to remarry, we pray for godly wisdom and discernment. We ask, Lord, that You would guide them to a spouse who is also faithful to You and Your Word. We pray that they would not be unequally yoked and that their marriage would be a testimony of Your love and faithfulness. We pray that they would truly seek to honor and glorify Jesus Christ together. We also pray that they would seek to marriage the way the Bible says to avoid all sexual immorality, including fornication which is sex before marriage. It says in 1 Corinthians 6:18: Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
We also pray for those who have been unfaithful or abusive in their past relationships. We pray for true repentance and change through the power of the Holy Spirit. We pray that they would be convicted of their sins and seek forgiveness and restoration. We pray that they would bear fruits worthy of repentance. The Bible says in Ezekiel 36:26 to the children of Israel: A new heart will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.
We pray all these things in Jesus' name, for it is in His name that we have access to the Father. As it says in John 14:6, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. It is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we are saved. The Bible says in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved.
Finally, we pray for the children who are dealing with the effects of divorce. We pray for Your protection and provision in their lives. We pray that they would know Your love and faithfulness even in difficult circumstances. We pray that they would not be embittered or have a setback by anything done by their parents or the divorce. We pray that they would put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
Let us remember to be gracious and kind to those who are going through or have gone through a divorce. We must go to them with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let us not only help them with their physical needs but also share the good news of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection with them. We must not be afraid to speak the truth in love and to stand against the evil of this world.
