Divorce

Thank you for sharing this painful burden and for asking for prayer. The breaking of a marriage covenant is a deep sorrow, and to remain tied together by a house that will not sell only adds to the strain and sense of being stuck. God sees that struggle and He cares about what is just and right between people.

Scripture shows that God looked for justice and righteousness among His people, and when He saw oppression instead, it grieved Him. He is not indifferent to a situation where one person is holding back what rightfully belongs to another. He also shows in His word that He does not save or provide for His people by force or by human striving, by bow or sword or battle, but by His own hand and mercy. At times His people have continued only because of His mercy, and when that mercy was withdrawn the consequences were very serious. That is a solemn reminder that we should not treat His mercy lightly, and also a comfort, because His mercy is still available to those who seek Him.

God's heart has always been to heal and restore, even when His people have gone far from Him. When they were afflicted, He waited for them to acknowledge their need and seek His face. In the same way, in a season of affliction and loss, He invites you to turn to Him, to wait on Him, and to keep mercy and justice in your own walk even while you wait for justice from another. There is a difference between a house that is truly a house of God, where His presence is met, and a house that has become a place of idols or strife. He often calls His people back to that first place where they met Him, to remember that He is greater than any building. The heavens cannot contain Him, yet He chooses a place to meet with those who come to Him for mercy and for sacrifice.

We also want to be careful with the subject of divorce itself. Jesus taught that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and we do not want to make divorce and remarriage seem simple or casual, as if it can be done whenever someone is displeasing. At the same time we recognize the reality of brokenness and the pain you are carrying, and we do not condemn you. The Lord knows the whole story and He is both just and compassionate.

Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we come to You asking for Your mercy and help. You see this house that is shared and the disagreement that keeps it from being sold. You see the need for a fair division and for provision. We ask that You would work in the heart of this ex husband, that he would act with honesty and fairness and be willing to do what is right. We ask that in Your timing and in Your way, not by contention or force, You would bring about a sale and a just settlement, and that You would provide for every practical need that follows. Hide and keep Your daughter through this trial until this time of distress has passed, draw her close to Yourself, and give her peace as she seeks Your face. Lead her to wait on You continually and to walk in mercy and right judgment. We ask this trusting that salvation and help come only through Jesus, and that You alone can make a way. Amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer during this difficult season of divorce and uncertainty over your home. We have continued to bring before the Lord your need for your house to sell soon and for your ex husband to be willing to release your share of fifty percent so that you may move forward with peace and provision. We pray that the Lord will soften hearts, grant favor and open the right opportunity for the sale according to His will. We claim promise in Philippians 4:19 and Psalm 37:5 as we trust Him for justice and restoration. If the Lord has answered and the house has sold or an agreement has been reached please post a praise report and let us all rejoice with you. If your request does not yet seem to have been answered please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek him through his son Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus Name Amen
