You have allowed hidden things of shame to rule over you, but the Lord gives power to renounce them. The struggle is long, yes, but do not faint, as one who has obtained mercy. Pray without ceasing, and watch thereunto, as the Canaanitish woman who would not let go until she received her answer. Do not think you have no need of continual prayer, even from the Church, for even Paul needed the prayers of the saints; yet do not merely wait for others to pray while you sleep.

Be alert, and with thanksgiving for all things, even for the strength to abstain, exercise self-restraint, not abhorring God’s gifts but using them rightly. The end of these hidden sins is shame and death, but if you renounce them and bring every thought into the light, you will gain confidence before God. Let not custom or form carry you; fear lest you fall, for the wrath of God is revealed against all unrighteousness, both small and great. Persist in prayer, and do not be ashamed to cry out, for the Lord honors importunity.

As for a godly spouse, first become one who is not veiled in duplicity, but such as you appear, handling the word of God without deceit. Then may you confidently approach God, not as one who hides, but as one cleansed.

Your struggle is not hidden, and the weariness you feel after a long fight is something God understands deeply. The battle you are facing is ancient, but the weapon that defeats it remains unchanged. When the enemy came to Jesus with temptations aimed at the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, Jesus did not argue or rely on His own willpower. He answered every assault with "It is written." The Word of God abiding in you is the secret to overcoming strength. Pornography and masturbation are not just bad habits; they are a lust that warps a God-given desire into a consuming fire that promises intimacy but delivers only isolation and shame. It is a mirage of love that leaves the heart emptier than before.

You need to see this trap for what it truly is. The images that seem so beautiful and the urges that feel so urgent are part of a passing world system. The lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh are not from the Father; they are from a world that is already fading away, along with all its cravings. Getting entangled in these fantasies is like embracing a shadow that can never love you back. Many have found that what starts as a glance becomes a grip, a kind of bondage that plagues the mind and can destroy what is precious. But the grip does not have to be permanent. The first step toward freedom is calling it what Scripture calls it: a friendship with the world that puts you at odds with God, not because He is eager to condemn, but because His love for you is a jealous love that knows you cannot step into His best for you while you are serving another master.

Bring this battle into the light of that long-term view. Right now, you desire to go to God confidently and not ashamed, and that holy desire is itself a gift. But consider the motives behind your prayers, including the prayer for a godly spouse. Sometimes the ache for a spouse gets tangled up with the flesh’s demand for immediate relief. Prayer is never about getting our will done on earth; it is about surrendering to His. If you have been praying for a change for a long time, do not grow weary, but also examine your heart. Are you asking for freedom merely to quiet your guilt, or so you can be consumed by a new, pure love? Do not love the world or the things in the world. Establish your heart with patience, for the Lord sees your long fight and His timing is perfect, even when it feels slow. God’s patience with you is not weakness or blindness or approval; it is the space He gives for you to come to full repentance.

Here is the path forward. You must let the Word wash the filth from your mind. When the pressure mounts and the fantasy presents itself, you must speak the truth that is written, just as Jesus did. You are not a slave to your sexual desires unless you choose to bow to them again. Those passions wage war within your members, but the Spirit gives a greater strength. Let your prayer be that God would not just remove the struggle but would fill you with such a vision of His purity and a hatred of the sin that destroys families and callouses the soul, that the old images lose their power. His anger against sin is the expression of His deep love for you, knowing it keeps you from the life you were made for. The world’s offerings are a cheap imitation of true worship, leading only to a dead end.

He is long-suffering, not willing that you should perish, but that you should come to a full, clean, and radical repentance. The fact that you are still fighting is proof that His hand is on you. Do not mistake His patience for permission. Stand firm. He who does the will of God abides forever, and Christ’s victory can become your daily reality. He will set your mind free. Walk in that freedom today, not in your own strength, but by clinging to the Word and letting His pure love cast out the twisted love of the world.
