We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear friend who is in desperate need of God’s salvation and deliverance. The scriptures tell us, *"For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God"* (Romans 3:23), and *"the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord"* (Romans 6:23). This friend is running from God, entangled in a lifestyle that grieves the Holy Spirit, and we must intercede with urgency, for the time is short and the harvest is plentiful.
First, we must address the reality of sin in this friend’s life. The patterns described—whether they be addiction, immorality, rebellion, or any other bondage—are not merely bad habits or struggles; they are strongholds of the enemy. The Bible warns, *"Do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God"* (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Yet we also know that *"such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God"* (1 Corinthians 6:11). There is hope! But that hope begins with repentance—a turning away from sin and a turning toward Jesus.
We rebuke the spirit of deception that has blinded this friend to the severity of their condition. The enemy has whispered lies: *"You’re not that bad," "God could never forgive you," "You can’t change,"* or *"This is just who you are."* But the Word of God declares, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"* (1 John 1:9). Repentance is not a one-time event but a daily surrender to the lordship of Christ. We pray that the Holy Spirit would convict this friend of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8), breaking the chains of denial and pride.
We also rebuke the spirit of fear that may be driving this friend to run. Perhaps there is shame, guilt, or past wounds that have never been healed. The Bible says, *"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear"* (1 John 4:18). We pray that this friend would encounter the perfect love of Jesus, which casts out all fear and sets the captive free. We declare over them: *"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed"* (Luke 4:18).
We must also address the urgency of salvation. This friend’s soul is at stake, and we cannot afford to be passive. The scriptures warn, *"How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?"* (Hebrews 2:3). We pray that God would send laborers into this friend’s life—believers who will speak truth in love, who will not shrink back from declaring the whole counsel of God. We ask that this friend would hear the gospel clearly and respond with faith. *"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast"* (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Father God, we come before You now in the mighty name of Jesus, the name that is above every name, the name by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). We lift up this precious soul to You, knowing that You desire that none should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). Lord, we ask that You would break every chain of addiction, every stronghold of sin, and every lie of the enemy that has kept this friend in bondage. We declare that whom the Son sets free is free indeed (John 8:36).
Holy Spirit, we ask You to move powerfully in this friend’s life. Convict them of their need for a Savior. Soften their heart to receive Your truth. Remove the scales from their eyes so they can see the beauty of Jesus and the horror of their sin. Let them taste and see that You are good (Psalm 34:8). We pray for a supernatural encounter with You, Lord—one that leaves no doubt that You are real, You are powerful, and You are love.
We rebuke every spirit of rebellion, perversion, addiction, and deception that has taken hold of this friend. We command these spirits to leave in the name of Jesus, for *"the Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the works of the devil"* (1 John 3:8). We declare that this friend is not a slave to sin but a child of God, called to walk in freedom and holiness.
Father, we ask that You would surround this friend with godly influences—believers who will walk alongside them, pray for them, and disciple them in the faith. Let them see the love of Christ lived out in tangible ways. We pray for divine appointments, for Your Word to take root in their heart, and for the seeds of the gospel to grow and bear fruit.
We also pray for protection over this friend’s mind and heart. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but we declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Guard their thoughts, their emotions, and their steps. Let them not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of their mind (Romans 12:2).
Lord, we ask that You would give this friend a hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matthew 5:6). Let them desire You more than the fleeting pleasures of sin. Create in them a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within them (Psalm 51:10). Let them experience the joy of Your salvation and the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
We pray for their physical and emotional healing as well. Sin often leaves wounds—shame, guilt, regret, and pain. But You, Lord, are the God who heals (Exodus 15:26). Bind up their broken heart and pour in the oil of Your joy (Isaiah 61:1-3). Let them know that in You, there is forgiveness, redemption, and restoration.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would use this friend’s testimony for Your glory. Let their story be one of deliverance, a living testimony to Your power and grace. May they become a light in the darkness, pointing others to the hope found only in Jesus Christ.
We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your faithfulness and Your promise that *"if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us"* (1 John 5:14). We believe that You are working even now in this friend’s life, drawing them to Yourself. We declare that they will not run forever—soon, they will run *to* You, and You will welcome them with open arms.
In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
