I have bought into the devils lies most of my life. While at a recovery group for women in my situation, we were given a list with the devils lies in the left column, and on the right the scripture stating the truth. It was very powerful to me. I could go down the list and see what I was believing was a lie. I again have given that list to someone that really needed it. I believe the Lord put it on my heart to write about it so I would have it in black and white again. I am using many resources for this list.
Lie #1- There is no devil
1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
Lie #2- The Bible is a story, not meant to be taken literally, and not that important.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered, “It is written,“‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’â€
Lie #3- I believe in God, and that he had a son, but as long as I believe in God I'm ok
John 14:6-7 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!â€
James 2:19-You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God.[a] Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.
Lie #4- The devil can't do anything
John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Lie #5-Everyone is a child of God
John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
Lie #6- There is no Judgement Day
Acts 17:30-31 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.â€
Lie #7- Money is the root of all evil
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
Lie #8- No one cares or it does not matter how hard I work
Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Lie #9- I can not confess my sins to another person, it is not necessary anyway
James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working
Lie #10- People are basically good
Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness,slander.
Lie #11- I am too broken, I will never recover.
John 8:31-33 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.â€
Lie #12- My father does not love me
John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
Lie #13- I have no friends that know and love the real me
John 15:15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
Lie #14-Everybody judges me, I will never make them happy
Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death
Lie #15- I am unlovable
1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Lie # 16- I can't beat the devil and his lies
Ephesians 6:10-20 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
