Our hearts ache with you as we lift up your precious daughter before the Lord, knowing that addiction is a cruel master that enslaves many—but our God is greater. The Scriptures remind us in 1 Corinthians 6:12, *"All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any."* Alcohol has taken hold of your daughter, but we serve a God who breaks every chain. He is the One who can set her free, not just from the physical craving, but from the spiritual bondage that fuels it.
We also see your deep concern for her job and future, and we understand the fear that grips a parent’s heart. But Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33-34, *"But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient."* Your daughter’s greatest need is not just sobriety, but salvation and surrender to Christ. If she turns to Him, He will provide for her—even in ways we cannot yet see.
Yet we must also speak truth in love: if your daughter is trapped in this sin, it is not just a physical or emotional battle, but a spiritual one. Ephesians 6:12 warns us, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."* Alcoholism is a tool of the enemy to destroy, but Jesus came to give life abundantly (John 10:10). Has she surrendered her life to Christ? Does she know that apart from Him, there is no true freedom? If she has not yet trusted in Jesus as her Lord and Savior, that is the first and most urgent prayer—because without Him, all other victories are temporary.
We also encourage you, dear parent, to examine your own heart. Are you trusting God with her future, or are you carrying this burden alone? Proverbs 3:5-6 commands us, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* You cannot save her—only God can. But you can pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and you can speak truth to her with love, even if it is hard to hear.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken yet hopeful hearts, lifting up this daughter who is bound by the chains of alcohol. Lord, You see her struggle—every hidden tear, every moment of shame, every desperate grasp for something to numb the pain. But You are the God who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3). We ask that You break the power of addiction in her life. Fill the void in her soul with Your presence, for only You can satisfy the deepest longings of her heart.
Father, if she does not know You, we pray that You would draw her to Yourself. Open her eyes to see her need for a Savior, and soften her heart to receive Jesus Christ as Lord. Let her taste and see that You are good (Psalm 34:8), and that true freedom is found in You alone. Convict her of sin, Lord, and lead her to repentance. Surround her with godly influences—people who will speak Your truth and walk with her in this battle.
We pray for her job, Lord, knowing that You are Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides. If it is Your will for her to remain in this position, grant her favor with her employers and strength to perform her duties well. But even if this job is lost, we trust that You have a plan for her future—one that is far greater than what we can imagine. Teach her to rely on You, not on her own strength or on the fleeting security of this world.
Give this mother (or father) peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7) as they release their daughter into Your hands. Remind them that You love her even more than they do, and that You are working all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28). Strengthen them to stand in the gap for her, to pray boldly, and to speak Your truth in love, even when it is hard.
We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ. Satan, you have no authority here—this daughter belongs to God, and we declare her freedom from every stronghold. Holy Spirit, fill her, renew her mind, and empower her to walk in victory. Let this season of struggle become a testimony of Your grace and power.
In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
