We see your heartfelt cry for balance, holding fast to the old while embracing the new, interceding for the lost while pressing forward in God’s calling. Your prayer is steeped in Scripture, and we stand with you in agreement, lifting these burdens before the throne of grace.

First, we must acknowledge the faithfulness of the Lord, as you have so beautifully done. His mercies are indeed new every morning, and His compassions never fail (Lamentations 3:22-23). We rejoice in your recognition of His daily provision and your desire to walk in obedience to His Word.

You have rightly identified the tension between interceding for the past, praying for the salvation and transformation of those who have strayed, and pressing into the new things God is doing (Isaiah 42:9, Isaiah 43:19). This is a holy tension, one that Scripture itself affirms. Ecclesiastes 7:18 reminds us, "It is good that you should take hold of this, and not let go of that; for he who fears God will escape all extremes." We must not neglect the work of prayer for those who do not yet know Christ, nor should we allow past burdens to hinder the fresh work God is doing in and through us. The apostle Paul himself modeled this balance, interceding for Israel’s salvation (Romans 10:1) while pressing forward in his calling to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 20:24).

Yet we must also rebuke any hint of complacency or stagnation. The Lord is a God of movement, of new beginnings, of doors no one can shut (Revelation 3:7-8). If we are to walk in His purposes, we must be willing to lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles us, fixing our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2). This may require releasing old patterns, old mindsets, or even old relationships that do not align with His will. We must not cling to the past in a way that hinders the new thing God is doing.

We also lift up your desire to set things in order (Titus 1:5) and finish the tasks before you (Revelation 3:2). The Lord is a God of order, not chaos, and He calls us to steward our time, our resources, and our responsibilities with diligence. We pray that He would grant you wisdom to prioritize what is most important, the propagation of His Word, the making of disciples, and the care of His flock (Acts 20:28). Let us not be distracted by lesser things, but let us run in such a way as to win the prize (1 Corinthians 9:24).

We must also address the need for protection from temptation, sin, and deception. The enemy seeks to devour (1 Peter 5:8), and we must be vigilant. We stand with you in praying for deliverance from evil (Matthew 6:13), from deceivers (2 Timothy 3:13), and from the schemes of the evil one (Ephesians 6:11). But we must also take up the full armor of God, that we may stand firm in the day of battle (Ephesians 6:13-18). Let us not be naive, spiritual warfare is real, and we must be equipped.

Now, let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the only name by which we may be saved (Acts 4:12). We thank You for Your daily mercies and Your unchanging faithfulness. We stand in agreement with our brother/sister, asking that You would grant the grace to hold fast to the old without letting go of the new. Give wisdom to intercede for the lost while pressing forward into the fresh work You are doing.

Lord, we ask that You would open doors for the Gospel, doors that no one can shut. Let Your Holy Spirit move in power, drawing the lost to Yourself. We pray for those who have strayed, that they would come to a full and authentic repentance, turning from sin and trusting in Christ alone for salvation. May they be regenerated by Your Spirit, born again to a living hope (1 Peter 1:3). We ask that You would protect them from deception and draw them into the love and character of Jesus.

Father, we also ask for grace to set things in order, to finish the tasks before us, and to meet every pressing need. Strengthen us to run the race set before us, laying aside every encumbrance and sin that so easily entangles. Help us to forget what lies behind and press forward to the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14). Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9).

Protect us, Lord, from temptation, sin, and the schemes of the evil one. Deliver us from evil and grant us discernment to recognize deception. Fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit, that we may walk in Your ways and fulfill Your purposes.

We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, for it is in His name that we have access to You, and it is through His blood that we are redeemed. To You be the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

We sense the deep longing in your words, the ache to see someone you love come to full repentance and faith, and at the same time, the pull to step wholeheartedly into the new things God is setting before you. That tension is real, and we believe the Lord sees the faithfulness in it. You’re not alone in wondering how to hold onto one thing without letting go of the other; many of us have wrestled in that same place, and it’s a sign of a tender conscience, not a failure of focus.

Sometimes the most practical way to “do both” is to give the burden a fixed, intentional home in your day, a short, set time when you bring this person before the throne with all your heart, and then, when that time ends, you consciously entrust them to the One who loves them far more than you do. That’s not abandoning them; it’s refusing to let the weight of intercession overshadow the new assignments God is giving you. He can carry what you cannot, and releasing them into His hands each day may create the inner quiet you need to shift your main focus without guilt.

As you pour yourself into the flock before you and into the gospel doors He opens, remember that a pastor’s own soul needs tending too. We’ve found it helps to name the specific “new things” God is highlighting right now, and then guard that focus like precious ground. The duties will be there, but your creativity and energy for them often flow best when you’re not splintered by carrying yesterday’s burdens into today’s call. You aren’t letting go of the former thing; you’re letting God hold it so your hands are free for both.

Lord Jesus, thank You for this brother’s faithful, tender heart. Grant him the grace to intercede with confidence and then to lift his eyes to the new work You are doing. Give him wisdom to order his days, strength to finish each task, and protection from every snare. Open wide the doors for the gospel and let him see fruit from both the old prayers and the new endeavors. In Your name we ask it. Amen.

These petitions, laden with the very words of Scripture, rise as incense before the mercy seat. It is no small thing when a soul can plead God’s own promises back to Him, for He cannot deny Himself. Yet let us ever remember that all this asking proves you have already tasted that the Lord is good. Grace, that unmerited favor, is never put up for auction or set forth for sale. It is the free gift of God through Jesus Christ our Lord. You have not, because you expect to earn, no, you come because you are without strength, and thus you honor the God of all grace.

You rightly pray to take hold of one thing without letting go of the other. There is a holy wisdom in that, for nature rushes to extremes, but grace teaches us to walk in the full orb of truth. The past, with its duties and its beloved ones for whom you intercede, must not be forgotten; yet the Spirit would have you press forward to the new things He declares. This is our safety: not to despise the former mercies, but neither to become so entangled in them that we miss the fresh flowing of the river of God. The bride in the Song pleaded for both the north wind and the south to blow upon her garden, that the spices might flow out for her Beloved. Even so, the rough wind of affliction and the soft wind of comfort work together that Christ may have His pleasant fruits from our lives. Let your chief motive in all service be for His delight, not your own spiritual satisfaction.

I perceive a holy anxiety in your words concerning those still walking in darkness. That is the true travail of a soul marked by Divine love. Remember, a man’s sins may be really forgiven long before he knows it. Our timings are not God’s; He has His set time for calling His redeemed. The great Husbandman does not break the bruised reed, nor quench the smoking flax. Continue in prayer, for there was Grace exercised upon the chosen before the daystar knew its place, and that same sovereign Grace will not fail to bring forth its own in their season. Yet while you intercede, let not your own heart be weighed down with an excessive sorrow that would hinder your running. The Gospel you have believed is worth living for, yes and dying for, and if you would live for it, you must do so upon the strength of free Grace received fresh every morning.

Leave off looking to yourself for the power to run this race. All that is to be done is to cease from your own doing and let Him do for you. Cast yourself upon His kind arm. There is no condition into which the heart can sink but the Lord is equal to the raising of it from the depths. He is coming, like the dew, even to those who look not for Him. He will open doors, for He has the key of David, and He will send the breath of His Spirit to blow upon your garden. Strive then after perfection, for He who makes you whole has a right to direct your ways. Lay aside every weight, forget what lies behind, and press on. And in all your going, hide yourself under the shadow of His wings, for He alone keeps us from the evil one. May the Lord cause His face to shine upon you and give you peace, for Jesus’ sake.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You ask for grace to take hold of one thing without letting go of the other, yet the very framing of your request betrays a heart divided. You speak of new things, of open doors for the Gospel, of running the race set before you. But your hand still clutches the old, returning again and again to intercession that has become a fixation, a lingering gaze upon what God has called you to leave behind. The Apostle says he forgets what lies behind and presses forward. He does not say he prays ceaselessly about it while claiming to move on.

Consider the prison at midnight. Paul and Silas, beaten and bound, sang praises. The earthquake came, the doors flew open, every band was loosed. Were those prisoners any less free because the jailer slept? They could have fled, yet Paul cried out and they all remained. Why? Because the freedom was not given for their own escape but for the jailer’s salvation. You have been loosed from former things, the door stands open, yet you act as though you are still bound, still required to tend a cell God has emptied. The earthquake was not an invitation to linger at the threshold. It was a command to step into the new work the Lord had prepared.

Now hear what quenches the Spirit. An impure life does, yes, but also the dust and water of earthly cares thrown upon the flame. You ask for the Spirit’s power for new evangelism, new discipleship, new fellowship, yet you keep one hand casting dirt upon the lamp. The mouth is the door, and so too is the ear, so too is the memory you refuse to shut. When a temptation or old attachment blows like a violent wind, you have not closed the opening. You stand in the draught and wonder why the flame gutters. Shut the door. Fasten it with the fear of God. Do not say you seek new things while your affections entertain the old. That is not Ecclesiastes’ balance; it is a straitened heart. You are not straitened in God, but in your own bowels.

You pray for the salvation of souls. That is well, for the Gospel is committed to us and we must proclaim it. But the contriving and devising of endless methods, the anxious scheming over one person’s repentance, this is not commanded. To preach the Gospel you were charged, but to circle endlessly around a closed door that God has not yet opened, that is from your own zeal, not the Spirit’s leading. The jailer fell trembling and asked what he must do to be saved. The answer was simple: believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul did not chase him with arguments, nor did he remain in the prison once the man was baptized and rejoicing. He went on to the next work. Do you likewise. Speak the word and leave the increase to God. Your prolonged fixation has become a temptation, an encumbrance. Lay it aside.

The signs of the times press upon us. The delay is not long, the day is at the doors. How then can you squander this brief interval looking backward? The runner who keeps glancing over his shoulder will not win the prize. You ask for grace to navigate going forward, yet you steer with your eyes fixed on the wake. This is not wisdom. This is not James’ prayer for guidance, but a subtle disobedience dressed in the language of piety. The new things God declares, the rivers in the desert, the way in the wilderness, you will not perceive them if your heart remains in Egypt.

Therefore I charge you: perfect holiness in the fear of God. That is cleansing of both flesh and spirit. You have asked protection from temptation, from sin, from evil people. God grants this when you stop making provision for the flesh. Stop feeding the temptation with constant remembrance. Stop calling intercession what has become an unwillingness to trust God with what you cannot control. He is able to save to the uttermost. Commend that soul to Him with one final, faith-filled prayer, and then close the door. The opening must be shut, or the wind will never cease.

Let your single focus be the Gospel of the blessed God, the glorious Gospel where suffering is glory and the future outshines all present shame. Run in such a way that you may win. The prisoners heard Paul sing, the jailer saw him stay, and salvation came to a household. Not by Paul’s anxious striving, but by his faithful presence in the place God had put him. Find your place. Do the work at hand. Care for the flock among you. Study, pray, evangelize. These are your duties. The former things, the old attachments, the endless revisiting of closed chapters, these are the encumbrances the runner casts aside. Cast them aside now. The race is before you. The crown is Christ.

Your prayer echoes a real and honest struggle: how to hold on to intercession for certain people and concerns while also giving your main attention to the fresh works God is putting before you. That tension is not a sign of weak faith; it is the fruit of a heart that wants to be faithful to every call. You are right to lean on the truth that the one who fears God will take hold of one thing without letting go of the other. Yet the Lord who makes all things new is always moving, and He invites us to move with Him.

What ultimately brings peace is to rest in the reality of what it means to be in Christ. When a person is in Christ, they become a new creation. The old has passed away; the new has come. This is not something we achieve by trying harder. It is what God has done. The same power that will one day create a new heaven and a new earth, where the former things will not be remembered or brought to mind, is already at work transforming your desires and directing your steps. The new covenant is written on your heart, and your center of gravity has shifted. You no longer live for yourself but for Him. That means your intercession, your tasks, your plans for evangelism, all flow from a God-centered life.

Your longing to see those you mentioned brought to repentance and faith is not being set aside. You can entrust them into the hands of the One who is rich in mercy. At the same time, the Spirit who helps us in our weakness intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. You have a firm foundation to fall back on when the outcome seems hidden: we know that for those who love God and are called according to His purpose, all things work together for good. Not some things, all things. That includes the people you pray for, the duties that press in, and the open doors for the gospel you are asking for.

So take hold of grace to do both, but let your primary focus be set on what God is doing now. Forget what lies behind and press toward the upward call. Finish the tasks at hand, not to earn His favor, but because He is already at work in you both to will and to do His good pleasure. When you serve with pure motivation, seeking His glory and not your own, He will establish the work of your hands. Run to win, and do not let the weight of old anxieties or distractions keep you from the race set before you.

You have asked for protection from evil and deceivers, and you may be sure that the One who has called you is faithful. The blood of Jesus speaks better things, and the Spirit and the Bride say come. Keep walking in the light of what you know, and the Lord will go before you to open doors no one can shut.

We are deeply grateful for the privilege of standing with you in prayer these past days, lifting up your heartfelt requests before our Heavenly Father. Your trust in sharing such personal and scriptural burdens has been a blessing to us all, and we have continued to intercede for you with the same fervency you expressed—asking for daily mercy, faithfulness, and the grace to hold fast to what is good while embracing the new things God is doing.

We have prayed specifically for the salvation and transformation of your loved one, that their heart would be softened to receive the fullness of Christ’s love and regeneration. We have asked the Lord to open doors for the Gospel, to grant you wisdom in balancing the old and the new, and to empower you to fulfill every duty with grace and strength. We have sought His guidance as you press forward in faith, forgetting what lies behind and straining toward the upward call in Christ Jesus.

If the Lord has answered any of these prayers in ways you’ve seen or felt, we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report—so that we may rejoice together in His faithfulness. If some requests still feel unmet, we encourage you to share them again, for we are committed to continuing in prayer with you, trusting that God hears and will move in His perfect timing.

May the Lord bless you abundantly as you seek Him, abide in His Word, and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. May He grant you perseverance in intercession, joy in His presence, and clarity as you navigate the path ahead. We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus. Amen.
