Curses, swearing, insults and hurtful words

Jonathan_M

Beloved of All
Dear Family Of God,
Today I'd like to pray over and against any/all curses, swearing, insults, humiliating and hurtful words. Please stand with me in faith and prayer over this. All these things I humbly ask in Jesus Christ name with thanksgiving. Thank you.

We stand with you in faith, lifting up this critical matter before the throne of grace. The power of words is profound, for Scripture tells us, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21). Hurtful words, curses, and insults are not merely empty sounds—they carry spiritual weight and can open doors to destruction in our lives and the lives of others. We must take this seriously, for the enemy seeks to use our tongues as weapons against us, but God calls us to use them for edification and blessing.

First, we rebuke every curse, swear word, insult, and humiliating speech that has been spoken over you or by you in Jesus' name. The Bible is clear: "No one can curse whom God has not cursed" (Numbers 23:8). If you have been on the receiving end of such words, we declare that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we break every ungodly word in the authority of Jesus Christ. If you have spoken these words yourself, we encourage you to repent, for Scripture warns, "If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet doesn’t bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless" (James 1:26). Let us ask the Lord to cleanse our mouths and fill them with praise instead of cursing (James 3:10).

We also address the root of such speech. Hurtful words often stem from anger, bitterness, or unforgiveness. Ephesians 4:29-31 urges us, "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice." If there is unhealed pain in your heart, we pray that the Lord would bring healing and restoration, replacing bitterness with His peace.

Let us now come before the Lord in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, who alone has the power to break every chain and silence every lying tongue. We thank You for Your mercy and grace, which cover us even when we fall short. Lord, we ask You to cleanse our mouths and our hearts from every ungodly word. For those who have been wounded by curses, insults, or hurtful speech, we declare Your healing and restoration over them. Your Word says that "a gentle tongue is a tree of life" (Proverbs 15:4), so we pray that You would fill us with Your Spirit, that our words may bring life, not death.

We break every curse and ungodly word spoken over us or by us in the authority of Jesus' name. We cancel their power and declare that they will not take root in our lives. Father, we ask You to guard our tongues and help us to speak only what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report (Philippians 4:8). For those struggling with anger or bitterness, we pray for Your healing touch. Soften their hearts, Lord, and replace every negative word with praise and thanksgiving.

We also pray for those who have habitually used cursing, swearing, or insults. Convict their hearts, Lord, and lead them to repentance. May they experience the freedom that comes from speaking words that honor You. We declare that no weapon formed against Your children shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against us in judgment, You will condemn (Isaiah 54:17). We thank You for Your protection and for the power of Your Word, which is sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12).

Lord, we ask that You would fill us with Your love, for love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8). Help us to forgive those who have spoken hurtfully to us, just as You have forgiven us. Teach us to use our words to build up, encourage, and bless others, that we may reflect Your heart in all we say and do. We commit our mouths to You, asking that every word we speak would bring glory to Your name.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Let us also remember that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). The enemy would love for us to remain in strife, using our words to tear one another down. But we are called to resist him, standing firm in our faith (1 Peter 5:9). Let us put on the full armor of God, including the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17). When we speak God’s Word, we wield a weapon that the enemy cannot withstand.

Finally, we encourage you to meditate on Scripture that speaks to the power of words. Psalm 19:14 says, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer." Let this be your prayer daily, surrendering your tongue to the Lord and asking Him to fill your heart with His truth. As you do, you will find that your words begin to reflect His love, grace, and power.

We join you in prayer, dear brother/sister, standing united in faith against the destructive power of curses, swearing, insults, and hurtful words. We understand the gravity of this issue, as the Bible reminds us that "death and life are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21). Let's turn to God in repentance and ask for His healing and guidance.

First, we confess any hurtful words we may have spoken, seeking forgiveness and cleansing from the Lord. We ask that He would remove any bitterness, anger, or unforgiveness from our hearts, replacing it with His love and peace (Ephesians 4:29-31).

Next, we pray for those who have been wounded by these words. Heavenly Father, we ask that You would bring healing and restoration to their hearts. Help them to forgive, as You have forgiven us, and to use their words to build up, encourage, and bless others (Ephesians 4:29).

We also pray for those who struggle with using hurtful language habitually. Convict their hearts, Lord, and lead them to repentance. Help them to find freedom in speaking words that honor You (Matthew 12:36-37).

Finally, let's commit to meditate on Scripture, allowing God's Word to shape our speech. As Psalm 19:14 encourages, let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable in His sight.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
