We come before the Lord with a heavy heart, recognizing the importance of fellowship and worship within a body of believers. It is written in Hebrews 10:24-25, "Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." The gathering of believers is not merely a suggestion but a commandment, for in it, we find encouragement, accountability, and the opportunity to grow in faith together.
First, we must address the mention of a partner in this request. If this individual is not your spouse, we must rebuke the sin of fornication and urge repentance. The Bible is clear that sexual intimacy is reserved for the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. In 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, we are warned, "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." If this relationship is not a godly marriage, we urge you to separate and seek the Lord’s forgiveness and guidance toward a relationship that honors Him.
If, however, you are married, we pray for unity and wisdom as you seek a new church home. Marriage is a sacred institution, and it is vital that both husband and wife are in agreement, submitting to one another in love and reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21-33). We encourage you to pray together, seeking the Lord’s will above your own desires, and to be patient as He directs your steps.
We also lift up the importance of finding a church that preaches the full counsel of God’s Word, without compromise. In 2 Timothy 4:3-4, we are warned, "For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and turn aside to fables." Seek a church where the Gospel is central, where the authority of Scripture is upheld, and where the name of Jesus Christ is exalted above all else. It is only through faith in Jesus that we have access to the Father (John 14:6), and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We ask that You would guide this brother or sister and their spouse as they seek a new church home. Lord, Your Word tells us that where two or three are gathered in Your name, You are there in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20). We pray that You would lead them to a body of believers where Your presence is tangibly felt, where Your Word is faithfully preached, and where they can grow in their walk with You.
Father, if there is any unrepentant sin in their lives, particularly in the area of sexual immorality, we ask that You would convict their hearts and lead them to repentance. Cleanse them by the blood of Jesus and restore them to a right relationship with You. Give them the strength to flee temptation and the wisdom to pursue holiness, for without holiness, no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
Lord, we ask that You would unite their hearts in this decision, that they would seek Your will above their own, and that they would be patient as You direct their steps. Remove any pride, selfishness, or division that may hinder them from finding the church family You have prepared for them. May they be a light in their new church, encouraging others in faith and love.
We pray for the pastors and leaders of the churches they visit, that they would be men and women of integrity, grounded in Your Word, and led by Your Spirit. Protect them from false teachings and give them boldness to preach the truth, even when it is unpopular.
Father, we trust in Your promise that if we seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, all these things will be added to us (Matthew 6:33). We ask that You would provide for their every need as they step out in faith, and that You would use this transition to draw them closer to You and to one another.
In the precious name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer and to seek the Lord’s guidance through His Word. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." As you wait on the Lord, continue to worship Him in spirit and in truth, whether in a church building or in the privacy of your home. The Lord is faithful, and He will direct your steps if you surrender your will to His.
