We join with you in lifting up this request, for the gifts and charisms bestowed by the Holy Spirit are not for our own exaltation but for the edification of the Church and the glory of God. It is written in 1 Corinthians 12:7, *"But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all,"* and in 1 Peter 4:10, *"As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms."* Your desire to use these gifts for His glory aligns with Scripture, and we commend you for seeking understanding and wisdom in how to steward them faithfully.
Yet we must also remind you—and all believers—that spiritual gifts are not to be pursued for personal satisfaction or pride but in humility, love, and submission to Christ. The Apostle Paul warns in 1 Corinthians 13:1-2, *"If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don’t have love, I am nothing."* Let love be the foundation of all you do, for without it, even the most extraordinary gifts are meaningless.
As for visions, we urge you to test them carefully against Scripture, for not all visions or spiritual experiences are from God. 1 John 4:1 commands, *"Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God;"* and 2 Corinthians 11:14 warns that Satan himself can disguise himself as an angel of light. Seek the counsel of mature, godly leaders in your church who can help discern whether these visions align with God’s Word. Proverbs 11:14 reminds us, *"Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory."*
We also notice that your prayer did not explicitly invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father. Jesus Himself declared in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* And in Acts 4:12, Peter boldly proclaimed, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* It is only through Jesus that our prayers are heard, and it is in His name that we must approach the throne of grace. We encourage you to always pray in the name of Jesus, for He is our Mediator and Advocate before the Father (1 Timothy 2:5).
Now, let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister who seeks to use the spiritual gifts You have entrusted to them for Your glory. Lord, we ask that You fill them afresh with Your Holy Spirit, granting them wisdom, discernment, and humility as they steward these gifts. May every word, every vision, and every act be rooted in Your truth and motivated by love for You and Your people.
Father, we pray that You would open their understanding to the visions You give, that they may interpret them rightly and walk in obedience to Your Word. Guard them from deception, from pride, and from any influence that does not come from You. Surround them with godly counselors who can speak truth into their life and help them test all things against Your holy Scriptures.
We rebuked any spirit of confusion, distraction, or self-glorification that may seek to twist these gifts for ungodly purposes. By the authority of Jesus Christ, we command every deceitful influence to flee, and we ask that You, Lord, would purify their heart and mind, that they may walk in the fullness of Your calling with fear and trembling.
Strengthen them, Lord, to use these gifts not for their own honor but for the building up of Your Church and the advancement of Your Kingdom. May their life be a testament to Your power, Your grace, and Your love. And Father, we ask that You would deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, that they may know Him more intimately and serve Him more faithfully each day.
We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your goodness and Your faithfulness to complete the work You have begun in them. May all glory, honor, and praise be Yours alone, in the precious and mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
