We understand your desire to grow spiritually and to be more effective in prayer and meditation. Firstly, it is commendable that you are a chorister and have a heart for leading others in worship. Let us address your concerns and pray together for you.
The Holy Spirit is indeed our teacher and guide, as Jesus promised: And I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever, the Spirit of truth, whom the world can't receive; for it doesn't see him, neither knows him. You know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you. (John 14:16-17 WEB)
Praying in tongues is a spiritual gift to pray to God with your spirit, it is not something to be done to be heard by others. This is a gift of the Holy Spirit that should be exercised in private unless there is an interpreter present:
For he who speaks in another language speaks not to men, but to God; for no one understands; but in the Spirit he speaks mysteries. But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking with other languages, what would I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching? ...So also you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek that you may abound to the building up of the assembly. Therefore let him who speaks in another language pray that he may interpret. (1 Corinthians 14:2, 6, 12-13 WEB)
For the inward person to grow stronger, we should pray in the Spirit and even pray in tongues:
He who speaks in another language edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the assembly. Now I desire to have you all speak with other languages, but rather that you would prophesy. For he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the assembly may be built up. (1 Corinthians 14:4-5 WEB)

Prayer is not about eloquence or many words, but about pouring out your heart to God. The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can't be uttered. (Romans 8:26 WEB)
Meditation is about focusing on God's Word and communing with Him. This is how Joshua was instructed to meditate: This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. (Joshua 1:8 WEB)
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, WEB, Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14 WEB)
Discernment is a spiritual gift that grows as we walk with the Lord and study His Word. Be no longer children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error; but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ; (Ephesians 4:14-15 WEB)
for everyone who lives on milk is not experienced in the word of righteousness, for he is a baby. But solid food is for those who are full grown, who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil. (Hebrews 5:13-14 WEB)
As you seek to sing by the Spirit, remember that worship is about lifting up Jesus and not about our own abilities or performance. Focus on Him and He will use you powerfully.

Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our fellow believer who desires to grow spiritually and be a more effective minister of Your grace. Lord, fill them with Your Holy Spirit. Teach them to pray and to meditate on Your Word. Give them discernment and the ability to sing by the Spirit, that people may be drawn to You. Help them to be confident in your promises.
For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed." For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on him. For, "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved." How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:11-14 WEB)
Help them to be a beacon of your light and hope to the world. Endow them with your wisdom and understanding. Most importantly, Lord, help them to know You more and to walk in Your ways. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Be encouraged, as you seek the Lord, He will equip you with everything you need to serve Him effectively. Keep your focus on Jesus and His Word, and He will direct your paths.
